How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.

04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Argentina
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Compare Claro, Movistar, Personal for your route. Check which network is included in the selected eSIM, then confirm coverage for your accommodation and trip stops.
Claro
Claro publishes a public coverage page that travelers can use to check estimated service at a location before buying a plan. [1] [4]
Check coverage ↗Movistar
Movistar provides a public coverage tool at its coverage site, alongside separate help pages for 4G and 5G availability in Argentina. [1] [5] [6] [18]
Check coverage ↗Personal
Personal publishes service and roaming information on its website. For trip planning, compare the operator pages with your exact itinerary and device compatibility. [1] [7]
Official website ↗| Operator | Coverage Experience / 10 | Download · Mbps | Study date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claro | 6.5 | 20.9 | 2023-11[9] |
| Movistar | 4.9 | 17.7 | 2023-11[9] |
| Personal | 7.1 | 27.3 | 2023-11[9] |
Coverage Experience is a score, not a percentage of territory. These dated averages are not promised speeds for your connection.
The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Argentina
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Buenos Aires
- Puerto Iguazú and Iguazú Falls
- El Calafate and Los Glaciares
- San Miguel de Tucumán and the Calchaquí route
Buenos Aires
In the capital, mobile data is especially useful for taxis, public transport, reservations and navigation across a large city. If you are staying outside the central districts, check the operator map for your exact address and route, because signal can change from one block or building to the next. [10] [11] [12]
Puerto Iguazú and Iguazú Falls
This route combines a border city, park access roads and transfers, so it is worth downloading offline maps before departure. Keep data active for messaging and hotel coordination, and check coverage for the airport road, town and any excursion pickup points you plan to use. [13] [14] [17] [10]
El Calafate and Los Glaciares
Patagonian trips often mix town time with long transfers and excursions. Offline maps help, but the most practical check is the operator page for the roads and pickup areas on your itinerary rather than only the town center. [13] [15] [17] [10]
San Miguel de Tucumán and the Calchaquí route
This northwestern route can include city stays, valley roads and smaller stops. A practical setup is to activate the eSIM before departure, save maps offline and confirm which operator page best matches the towns and roads you actually plan to use. [13] [16] [17] [10]
Argentina · eSIM
Argentina eSIM overview
Claro, Movistar and Personal are Argentina’s main mobile networks. Check which one is included in your chosen eSIM, then compare the places that matter for your trip: accommodation, airport transfers and stops between towns. Operator coverage information is useful for planning, but terrain and buildings can change reception at a particular address.
A city break in Buenos Aires and a road trip through Patagonia need different preparation. Save transport and accommodation details for the city; download maps for the roads to Iguazú, Patagonia and northwestern stops before leaving Wi-Fi. Choose data for your own use of navigation, messages and photos. Network measurement reports describe their stated period and do not guarantee the speed at your next hotel.
Useful apps and travel tools
Google Maps ↗
Useful for live navigation, saved places and offline maps when you are between cities or outside strong signal areas. [10]
BA Cómo llego ↗
Official Buenos Aires mobility app for finding routes by bus, train, subway, bicycle, car or walking. [11] [12]
Travel Buenos Aires ↗
Official city travel app with practical visitor information; the tourism site says it can be used without wifi or mobile data once downloaded. [11] [12]
Before you buy
How to compare coverage before you travel
For Argentina, the best comparison is not a single countrywide promise but a mix of operator coverage tools and dated measurement reports. Claro publishes a public coverage page, Movistar provides a public coverage tool and separate 4G and 5G help pages, and Personal publishes service information online. Together with ENACOM’s registry, this helps you verify which networks matter for your itinerary instead of guessing from a marketing claim. [1] [2] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]
Why mobile data matters on the road
A data eSIM is practical for navigation, ride-hailing, messages and checking opening hours while moving between neighborhoods or provinces. In Buenos Aires it supports urban mobility; on Iguazú, Patagonian and northwestern routes it is most useful for live directions, hotel contact and keeping trip details accessible when Wi‑Fi is inconsistent. [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Argentina
Which mobile networks should I compare for Argentina?
The practical comparison starts with Claro, Movistar and Personal, because those are the main nationwide mobile networks visitors are most likely to use. ENACOM’s registry confirms the mobile-service provider framework, and each operator offers a public way to check coverage. If you want the safest choice for a specific hotel, road or excursion, compare the operator page for that exact location instead of relying only on a country summary. [1] [2] [4] [5] [7]
Can I check coverage before I leave for a trip?
Yes. Claro publishes a public coverage page, Movistar provides a public coverage tool and separate 4G and 5G pages, and Personal publishes service information on its site. That lets you check the places that matter most to your itinerary before you buy a plan. It is better to verify your hotel, airport transfer and day-trip routes than to assume one city result covers the whole region. [4] [5] [6] [7] [18]
Is Buenos Aires different from the rest of the country?
Yes in practice, because a big-city trip uses data differently from a long-distance itinerary. In Buenos Aires, mobile internet is especially useful for transport, taxis and restaurants, and the city’s official sources point travelers to BA Cómo llego and related mobility tools. Outside the capital, you should also think about transfer routes, not just the destination city, because signal can change along the way. [10] [11] [12]
What should I do for Iguazú, Patagonia or Tucumán?
For routes like Iguazú, El Calafate or Tucumán, it is smart to download offline maps and keep your eSIM active for live directions, messaging and hotel coordination. These trips often mix towns, parks and long transfer legs, so the most useful check is the operator page for the exact road or access area you will use. That gives a more realistic picture than looking only at the main town name. [10] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17]
Should I rely only on a speed report when choosing a plan?
No. Opensignal reports are helpful because they show measured user experience, but they are dated snapshots, not a promise of how one exact street or building will perform today. The best approach is to combine a measurement report with the operator’s public coverage page and your own route details. That way you can choose a plan that fits both expected speeds and the places you actually visit. [8] [9] [4] [5] [7]
Do I need a separate local SIM for maps and taxi apps?
Usually not if your phone supports eSIM. A data eSIM is enough for maps, ride-hailing, messaging and most travel needs, while your home SIM can stay in the phone for calls or SMS if you want. The key is to keep home-SIM charges separate from data use and to verify that your chosen plan works on one of the main networks before arrival. [1] [4] [5] [7] [10]
