How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.
04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Iraq
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
CMC materials and the regulator-linked white paper indicate three national mobile network operators in Iraq: Asiacell, Zain Iraq and Korek Telecom. This page treats that as the current national mobile network list.
Asiacell
Ask Asiacell about mobile coverage at your accommodation and along your route. Confirm the network included in the exact eSIM package before buying. [2] [3]
Official website ↗Zain Iraq
Ask Zain Iraq about mobile coverage at your accommodation and along your route. Check the network listed in the eSIM package before purchase. [1] [4] [6]
Official website ↗Korek Telecom
Korek’s official site confirms it remains an active national operator, but a public standalone coverage tool was not verified here. Use operator support pages or local sales points for account help and service availability. [1] [2] [5]
Official website ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Iraq
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Baghdad
- Babylon and Ctesiphon corridor
- Mosul, Hatra and Ashur
- Southern heritage and marshland routes
Baghdad
For stays in Baghdad and transfers to nearby heritage sites, keep the eSIM active before you leave your hotel so maps, ride-hailing and messaging are already working when you step into a taxi or start a day trip. The city is also the easiest place to sort out support, top-ups and app logins if needed. [1] [2] [11] [12]
Babylon and Ctesiphon corridor
This is a practical one-day or half-day route from Baghdad, so download offline maps, save your accommodation pin and avoid relying on live traffic alone. If you plan to move between several stops, a stable data plan makes it easier to coordinate drivers and check return times without switching between hotel Wi‑Fi and mobile data. [7] [11] [12]
Mosul, Hatra and Ashur
For northern heritage travel, plan for longer intercity drives and keep navigation cached on the phone before departure. The UNESCO sites around Mosul, Hatra and Ashur are spread out enough that a data connection is most useful for rerouting, messaging and checking meeting points rather than for continuous streaming. [8] [9] [10] [11] [12]
Southern heritage and marshland routes
If your trip includes southern heritage or wetland areas, prepare for changing plans and longer transfers between stops. Offline maps, a charged power bank and a data plan with enough headroom are more useful than relying on one single app or one route note. [2] [7] [11] [12]
Iraq · eSIM
What to know before you buy
Iraq’s mobile market is served by three national operators identified by the regulator-linked sources used here: Asiacell, Zain Iraq and Korek Telecom. That gives travellers a clear starting point when choosing a plan, even though public coverage tools are not equally easy to verify on every operator site.
For visitors, the practical question is not just who has the biggest name, but where you are going and how you use data. Baghdad is the easiest place to handle setup and support, while trips toward Babylon, Ctesiphon, Mosul, Hatra and Ashur benefit from an eSIM that is active early, plus offline maps as a backup for longer road sections and site-hopping days.
Useful apps and travel tools
Google Maps ↗
Google’s map app helps with turn-by-turn navigation, place search and saved locations, which is useful for airport transfers, hotel check-ins and heritage-site visits. [11]
Waze ↗
Waze is a community-based driving navigation app for real-time routing and road alerts. It is useful when you are moving around city streets or coordinating pickup points by car or taxi. [12]
Before you buy
Use data for taxis, maps and coordination
In Iraq, the most immediately useful mobile data tasks are opening maps, confirming pickup points, coordinating drivers and sending messages. That is why a travel eSIM is most valuable when it is ready before you move between hotel, airport and sightseeing stops. [11] [12]
Offline maps still help on longer intercity days
Even with a good data plan, keeping offline maps on the phone reduces friction when you leave the city, move between archaeological sites or lose signal briefly on the road. That backup matters on day trips and multi-stop routes. [11] [12] [7] [8] [9] [10]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Iraq
Which mobile networks should I expect in Iraq?
The current national mobile network list used on this page is Asiacell, Zain Iraq and Korek Telecom. That list comes from regulator-linked material indicating three mobile network operators in the market. For a traveller, the main point is to compare the operator that matches your route and support needs, rather than assuming every plan uses the same network everywhere. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
Is one operator automatically best for the whole country?
No single network is the best choice for every city, road and sightseeing stop. Compare the network in your package against your itinerary: Baghdad, northern heritage routes and southern transfers can need different preparation. Save maps and contacts offline before longer journeys. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Can I rely on data for navigation in Iraq?
Yes, but it is wise to combine live data with offline maps. Google Maps and Waze are useful for turn-by-turn navigation, pickup points and traffic-aware driving directions, while saved maps reduce stress when you are between sites or lose signal briefly. That mix is especially helpful on day trips outside the main city. [11] [12] [7] [8] [9] [10]
Should I activate the eSIM before arrival or after landing?
For most travellers, it is easier to install the eSIM before the trip and switch it on once you are ready to use data. The key benefit is that maps and messaging can work as soon as you need them, which is helpful for airport transfers and first-day logistics. Exact validity start rules depend on the specific product, so check the plan details before purchase. [3] [4] [5]
What should I do if I am visiting Babylon, Mosul or Hatra?
Prepare your navigation before you leave the city. Babylon and Ctesiphon work well as a Baghdad day trip, while Mosul, Hatra and Ashur are better handled as longer road itineraries. Save hotel details, download offline maps and keep enough battery for the return leg, because a data plan is most useful when you can use it for coordination, not just browsing. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12]
Do I need a lot of data for a trip in Iraq?
It depends on how you travel. If you mainly use maps, ride apps, messaging and hotel check-ins, a moderate plan is usually enough. If you will spend long days on the road, share maps with companions or rely on mobile data instead of Wi‑Fi, choose a larger package so you do not have to manage usage as often. [11] [12] [3] [4] [5]
