How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.
Line name: Letisim Mali

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.

Mobile operators in Mali
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Research-based list of the main current mobile networks identified from the national regulator and operator pages. This page does not imply package inclusion or exhaustive tariff coverage for every offer.
Orange Mali
AMRTP records show Orange Mali’s licensed status. A public coverage checker was not verified here, so current service details should be confirmed on the operator website. [2] [3]
Official website ↗Moov Africa Mali - Malitel
The operator publishes a public network coverage page and also describes 3G service areas on its mobile internet pages. For a trip, this is the clearest operator-side place to check before you rely on data in a specific area. [1] [5] [6] [2]
Check coverage ↗Telecel Mali
Ask Telecel Mali about mobile coverage at your accommodation and along your route. Check the network listed in the eSIM package before purchase. [7] [8] [9] [2]

- Bamako
- Djenné
- Dogon Country / Bandiagara area
- Sikasso
Bamako
In the capital, a data eSIM is practical for maps, ride-hailing and messaging. Bamako also has several local transport apps, so it helps to keep one map app with offline downloads as a backup while you compare ride options on the move. [15] [16] [17]
Djenné
For Djenné, prepare before arrival: save offline maps, hotel contacts and meeting points, then treat live data as a convenience rather than your only navigation tool while moving around the historic area. [10] [11]
Dogon Country / Bandiagara area
Around Bandiagara and the Dogon villages, plan for changing signal quality as you move between roads and settlements. Download the routes you need, plus contacts and key stops, before leaving the city. [12]
Sikasso
For southern itineraries through Sikasso, choose a plan with enough data for navigation, messaging and bookings, and keep home-SIM roaming charges separate if you leave your regular number active. [8] [9]

Overview
Mali’s mobile market is regulated by AMRTP, which publishes a public catalogue of active offers. For travellers, that is useful because you can compare operator names and plan styles before you buy, instead of relying on a single seller’s promise.
The main networks identified here are Orange Mali, Moov Africa Mali - Malitel, and Telecel Mali. Malitel publishes a public coverage page, while Telecel’s official site shows active prepaid and data offers. In practice, travellers should check the operator’s own service pages for the areas they plan to visit and keep offline maps ready for stretches where they do not want to depend on live navigation.
Useful apps and travel tools
SoRo Service: Taxi Bamako ↗
A Bamako ride-hailing app that lets you locate a nearby car, view fare details and book a taxi on mobile data. [16]
Titigo ↗
A ride-hailing app for trips anywhere in Mali, useful when you want a local booking option with prices and driver tracking in the app. [17]
MONGO - Taxi et Livraison ↗
A Bamako transport app for taxi and delivery, helpful if you want a city ride option alongside maps and messaging. [15]
Before you buy
Check operator pages before the trip
AMRTP is the national telecom regulator and runs a public offers catalogue, while Malitel also publishes a coverage page. For travellers, the practical step is to compare the operator’s own service pages with the exact places on your route instead of assuming one network will behave the same everywhere. [1] [2] [5]
Use offline maps in heritage areas
UNESCO lists Djenné and the Cliff of Bandiagara among Mali’s world heritage places. In practice, that means saved maps and addresses are worth having even when mobile data works, because navigation is often easier when you are not relying on repeated live searches. [10] [11] [12]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Mali
Which mobile networks should I compare before buying data for Mali?
Start with the three main networks identified from the regulator and operator pages: Orange Mali, Moov Africa Mali - Malitel, and Telecel Mali. AMRTP’s catalogue is useful for comparing active offers, while Malitel and Telecel show their own public service pages. For a traveller, the best choice is usually the plan whose operator gives you the most relevant coverage information for the places you actually plan to visit, not the one with the loudest headline. [1] [2] [3] [5] [7] [8] [9]
Can I check coverage before I arrive?
Yes, at least partly. Malitel publishes a public network coverage page, and AMRTP publishes a market catalogue of current offers. That does not guarantee a perfect match everywhere, but it does let you compare what the operator says is available before you land or drive out of the capital. [1] [2] [5]
Is Bamako the easiest place to rely on mobile data?
Bamako is the most practical place to expect everyday use of data for maps, transport apps and messaging, because local ride-hailing apps are active there and the city is the main hub for arrivals and onward travel. Even so, it is still smart to keep offline maps and saved addresses, especially if you are moving around without a fixed itinerary. [15] [16] [17]
What should I do for Djenné or Dogon Country?
Prepare before you leave the city. UNESCO lists Djenné and the Bandiagara area among Mali’s heritage places, and that makes saved maps, contacts and meeting points useful on the road. The practical habit is to download what you need while you still have good signal, then treat live data as a convenience rather than your only navigation tool. [10] [11] [12]
How do I keep roaming charges separate from eSIM data use?
Treat them as two different bills. A data eSIM covers mobile internet, while your home SIM can still create separate voice, SMS or roaming charges if you leave it active for calls or texts. Before you switch numbers on the trip, decide which line will handle data and which line, if any, will remain for receiving home-country calls. [7] [8] [9]
Which apps are actually useful once I arrive?
For most trips, one local map flow and one transport app are enough. SoRo Service: Taxi Bamako, Titigo and MONGO each provide a practical local ride option for city travel, and they work best when you already have mobile data turned on. That combination covers the most common traveller tasks without filling your phone with unused apps. [15] [16] [17]
