How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.

Mobile operators in Taiwan
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Compare Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone for your route. Check which network is included in the selected eSIM, then confirm coverage for your accommodation and trip stops.

Public coverage lookup is available on the operator site. Travelers can check mobile coverage by area before choosing a plan or route. [1] [2]

05 / Coverage
Coverage across Taiwan
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Taipei
- Alishan National Scenic Area
- Kenting
- Miaoli
Taipei
In Taipei, an eSIM is mainly about smooth city movement: metro, buses, ride-hailing and restaurant bookings. A stable connection is most useful around station changes and for real-time transit apps, so install and test the plan before arrival if you want the least hassle on day one. [5] [6]
Alishan National Scenic Area
For Alishan, plan for a mountain trip rather than a city commute. Coverage can be more variable around forest and rail segments, so download offline maps, keep tickets and hotel details saved locally, and avoid assuming constant live data when moving between train, bus and viewpoints. [7] [9]
Kenting
In Kenting, data is useful for beach-area logistics, local buses and last-mile transfers between hotels, park stops and dining spots. If you plan to move around the peninsula, keep a second route option ready and store key bookings offline, since the day may mix busy resort zones with quieter stretches. [8] [9]
Miaoli
Miaoli is practical as a transfer base for rail and road travel. For travelers changing trains or continuing toward hill areas, having mobile data helps with live schedules, platform checks and navigation between station exits, taxis and local buses. [9]
Taiwan · eSIM
Why an eSIM helps here
Taiwan travel is easiest when your phone has data from the moment you land. In Taipei, live metro and bus information makes transfers simpler, while ride-hailing and restaurant maps are easier to use with a local data connection. A traveler-focused eSIM also keeps your home SIM separate, so you can leave your main number active for calls or banking messages if needed.
Outside the capital, practical planning matters more. Mountain areas such as Alishan can involve rail, shuttle buses and changing weather, while Kenting often means moving between beach zones, park entrances and accommodation. A good plan is one that gives you enough data for navigation, tickets, bookings and messaging without forcing you to rely on café Wi‑Fi or hotel lobbies.

Before you buy
What to check before you buy
Match the plan to the places you will actually visit. For a Taipei-only trip, a smaller data bundle may be enough; for Alishan or long coastal days in Kenting, choose more headroom because navigation, messaging, photos and transit checks add up quickly. Also confirm whether the eSIM is data-only or includes voice features, since home SIM roaming and a data eSIM are not the same thing. [2] [5] [7] [8]
Why installation timing matters
Some products activate at purchase, some at first connection, and some at install. For travelers, the safest approach is to install while you still have a reliable connection and then switch the line on when you arrive or when the plan instructions say to do so. That reduces the risk of being stuck without service at the airport or hotel. [3] [4] [5]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Taiwan
Which mobile networks can I expect in Taiwan?
NCC materials and operator pages indicate that the market is now centered on three major telecom brands: Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone. For a traveler, the useful difference is not just the brand name but whether a plan lets you check coverage before buying and whether your phone supports the network bands used locally. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Is Taipei easier for mobile data than mountain or beach areas?
Taipei is usually the easiest place to use live data because metro, bus and city services are dense and well connected. In mountain and coastal trips, the connection can be more variable, so the sensible move is to download offline maps and keep booking details saved on your phone before you leave the city. [5] [6] [7] [8]
Do I need a larger data plan for Alishan or Kenting?
Often yes, because both trips tend to involve more navigation, more photo sharing and more route checking than a simple city stay. That does not mean every visitor needs a huge package, but it does mean you should size the plan around your actual pace of travel and how often you rely on live directions, transport updates and messaging. [7] [8] [9]
Should I install the eSIM before I fly?
Usually that is the easiest option if your plan allows it. Installing in advance means you can finish the setup while your current internet is stable, then switch the line on when you land or when the product instructions tell you to do so. It is a simple way to avoid setup stress after arrival. [3] [4] [5]
Can I keep my regular SIM active too?
Yes, in many cases you can keep your home SIM in the phone while using a data eSIM for Taiwan. That is useful if you want to continue receiving important SMS or calls on your main number, while routing maps, taxis and messaging through the travel eSIM. [2] [3] [4]
