How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Give the new line a clear name
For example, “Letisim Azerbaijan”, so you can distinguish it from your home SIM. This is a label on your phone; it does not change the number or plan.
iPhone: Settings → Cellular / Mobile Service → new eSIM → Cellular Plan Label → Custom
Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name
Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name
Huawei: SIM management → SIM 2 → your eSIM → Card name. You can keep the existing label if no rename option is shown.
Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.
Line name: Letisim Azerbaijan

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.
04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Azerbaijan
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
The national mobile network list follows the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport registration table. It includes Azercell Telecom, Azerfon (Nar) and Bakcell. Package availability depends on the package screen.
Azercell
Azercell publishes a public 5G coverage page with selected locations. It is useful for checking whether a specific stop is listed, but it does not describe every technology across the whole country. [1] [2] [3]
Check coverage ↗Bakcell
Bakcell’s support content says 4G is available via more than 7,000 base stations in over 30 regions, and 3G covers most of the country by the operator’s description. No public mobile coverage page is linked here, so route checks matter before longer trips. [1] [4]
Official website ↗Nar
Nar is listed as a national mobile operator, and its public 5G page mentions Sumgait. No public mobile coverage page is linked here, so it is sensible to prepare offline maps for intercity and mountain segments. [1] [5]
Official website ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Azerbaijan
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Baku and the Absheron coast
- Gobustan day-trip corridor
- Khinalig mountain route
- Goygol and western nature stops
Baku and the Absheron coast
This is the easiest part of Azerbaijan for everyday mobile internet use. A single package is usually enough for maps, ride booking, hotel messages and ticket services. Public 5G is mentioned only for selected places, so plan around normal day-to-day connectivity rather than a 5G-only expectation. [3] [6]
Gobustan day-trip corridor
Before leaving Baku, download offline maps and save any meeting point or driver contact. For this kind of day trip, route preparation matters more than chasing headline speed. [7]
Khinalig mountain route
Treat this as a mountain route first. Save offline maps, lodging details and key messages before departure, because stable access on the road matters more than peak performance figures. [8]
Goygol and western nature stops
For western Azerbaijan, choose a package with enough traffic for navigation and messages through the day. Offline maps are useful for the final approach to parks, lakes and smaller settlements. [9]
Azerbaijan · eSIM
Mobile internet in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan has three registered national mobile operators: Azercell Telecom, Azerfon (Nar) and Bakcell. For most visitors, the choice is less about the operator list itself and more about the route. Baku and the Absheron side of the trip are usually the simplest use case for maps, ticket services, hotel messages and ride booking, while day trips to Gobustan and longer mountain or nature routes toward Khinalig or Goygol call for more careful preparation and offline maps before you leave the city.
Public operator information is uneven, so compare packages with realistic expectations. Azercell publishes a public 5G coverage page for selected locations, Bakcell describes broad 4G and 3G reach in its support pages, and Nar publicly highlights 5G in Sumgait. Treat those pages as route checks, not as a promise that every technology will work the same everywhere. Before installation, check your chosen package start rule on the package screen: some packages start at first connection, while others start from purchase.
Useful apps and travel tools
Azerbaijan Railways ticket service ↗
Official Azerbaijan Railways web service for train tickets and payment information. Useful if your trip includes intercity rail. [10]
Baku Metro QR ticket service ↗
Official Baku Metro web guidance for paying with a QR ticket on the phone. Useful for metro trips in Baku. [11]
Before you buy
Check when the package starts
Package timing is not identical across the catalog. Some packages start from first connection, while others start from purchase. Check the package screen before installing early or buying in advance. [12]
Prepare before leaving Baku
If your trip includes Gobustan, Khinalig or Goygol, save offline maps, accommodation details and important contacts before you leave the city. That makes navigation and messaging easier on longer road sections. [7] [8] [9]
Use official rail and metro services
If you plan to use trains or the Baku metro, keep mobile internet available for official ticket and QR-payment services. That is practical for schedules, purchases and payment on the phone. [10] [11]
Check coverage for the route, not just the city
Public operator pages are most useful when you compare them with the places you will actually sleep, drive and visit. For visitors, route-based checks are more practical than a broad national impression. [3] [4] [5]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Azerbaijan
Which mobile networks operate nationally in Azerbaijan?
The Ministry registration list includes three national mobile operators: Azercell Telecom, Azerfon (Nar) and Bakcell. For a trip, compare the package details with your route instead of choosing by name alone. [1] [12]
Is one eSIM package enough for Baku and a few day trips?
Often yes, if your main needs are maps, messages, ride booking and ticket services. For trips that add Gobustan, Khinalig or Goygol, download offline maps before you leave Baku and keep some traffic available for navigation on the road. [6] [7] [8] [9]
Should I plan my trip around 5G in Azerbaijan?
No. Public 5G information is location-specific rather than countrywide. Azercell lists selected places, and Nar publicly mentions 5G in Sumgait, so 5G is better treated as a bonus than as the basis of your plan. [3] [5]
When should I install or activate my Azerbaijan eSIM?
Check the package screen first. In the catalog, some packages start at first connection, while others start from purchase. If you want to buy early, the package rule matters more than the travel date alone. [12]
