How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Give the new line a clear name
For example, “Letisim Faroe Islands”, so you can distinguish it from your home SIM. This is a label on your phone; it does not change the number or plan.
iPhone: Settings → Cellular / Mobile Service → new eSIM → Cellular Plan Label → Custom
Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name
Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name
Huawei: SIM management → SIM 2 → your eSIM → Card name. You can keep the existing label if no rename option is shown.
Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.
Line name: Letisim Faroe Islands

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.

Mobile operators in Faroe Islands
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Compare Føroya Tele, Nema for your route. Check which network is included in the selected eSIM, then confirm coverage for your accommodation and trip stops.

Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Tórshavn and Streymoy

- Suðuroy
Tórshavn and Streymoy
Start here if you want the easiest first connection. The capital area is the main hub in the official maps and transport material, so it is a practical place to install the eSIM, verify data, and save offline maps before you move on to ferries or smaller villages. [5] [6] [9]
Vágar and the airport approach
Have data ready before you leave the airport area if possible. Arrival logistics, car pickup, route guidance and hotel check-in happen quickly here, so it helps to confirm the eSIM while you still have a stable connection and keep maps downloaded as backup. [5] [6] [4]
Eysturoy and Norðoyar
For days that involve tunnels, viewpoints and short transfers between islands, keep key items stored locally on the phone. The official visitor maps and audio guides are useful companions when you are moving from one stop to the next and do not want to depend on constant live loading. [5] [7] [8]
Suðuroy
Plan data-heavy tasks before the ferry crossing and keep tickets, booking details and maps saved on the device. The official transport material shows ferries as part of normal travel, so an offline-ready phone makes the route easier to manage. [5] [6] [4]
Faroe Islands · eSIM
Overview
Connectivity in the Faroe Islands is best approached as a route-by-route decision. The capital area, the airport side of Vágar, ferry crossings and smaller island days can all feel different in practice, so it helps to install and test the eSIM while you still have stable Wi‑Fi, then keep offline maps and booking details saved on the phone for the rest of the trip.
Public sources identify Føroya Tele and Nema as the two GSM service providers most relevant to visitors. For a traveler, the main question is not which company is “the” island network, but which plan, activation flow and data allowance fit your trip style. If you expect to use navigation, messages, transport apps and photo uploads, prepare the phone early and use the official maps and transport pages to match the route you will actually take.

Before you buy
Two GSM brands are the main comparison
Public regulator and visitor information identify Føroya Tele and Nema as the two GSM service providers most relevant to travelers. That means the useful comparison is usually about package terms, eSIM convenience and how quickly you can get online, rather than about choosing between several separate national networks. [3] [4]
Offline maps are worth preparing
Visit Faroe Islands provides downloadable regional and transport maps, and SSL’s tourist map frames buses and ferries as part of normal trip planning. For a traveler, that makes pre-downloading maps, tickets and hotel details a practical habit before heading out from the first Wi‑Fi connection. [5] [6]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Faroe Islands
Which mobile networks should I compare for a trip to the Faroe Islands?
The current public sources point to two GSM service providers: Føroya Tele and Nema. Those are the main brands to compare before you buy a plan. The useful differences for a visitor are usually how eSIM activation works, what the data package includes, and whether you can get connected before you start moving between islands. [3] [4]
Can I assume the same connection will feel identical everywhere?
It is better not to assume that. Official visitor and transport pages show that travel here is shaped by location and route: the capital area, the airport side of Vágar, ferry crossings, tunnels and smaller island days all matter. A practical setup is to activate and test your eSIM early, then keep offline maps and tickets ready so you are not dependent on live loading at every step. [5] [6] [4]
Is Tórshavn a good place to do the first setup?
Yes. The capital area is the main hub in the official maps and transport material, so it is a sensible place to confirm that data works, check that your eSIM profile is active, and download the maps you will want later. That is especially helpful if your next day involves ferries or a move to a smaller island. [5] [6] [9]
What should I prepare for Vágar and the airport area?
Have internet ready before you leave the airport area if possible. Arrival logistics, route guidance, car pickup and check-in all happen quickly there, so it is wise to make sure the eSIM is working while you still have a stable connection. Keeping offline maps on the phone gives you a back-up if you head out immediately after landing. [5] [6] [4]
Do ferry days need special preparation?
They do in the sense that it helps to think ahead. The transport material shows ferries as a normal part of moving around the islands, so save your booking details, accommodation address and route maps on the device before boarding. That way the practical information is still available even if your connection changes during the crossing. [5] [6]
Which apps are actually useful once the eSIM is installed?
Official local audio guides are a strong fit here. Explore Føroyar and Tell me North both add stories and place-based context to sightseeing, which is useful when you are moving between villages, viewpoints and short stops. They complement navigation well and help you use your data for something more than just maps. [7] [8]
