How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Give the new line a clear name
For example, “Letisim United Kingdom”, so you can distinguish it from your home SIM. This is a label on your phone; it does not change the number or plan.
iPhone: Settings → Cellular / Mobile Service → new eSIM → Cellular Plan Label → Custom
Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name
Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name
Huawei: SIM management → SIM 2 → your eSIM → Card name. You can keep the existing label if no rename option is shown.
Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.
Line name: Letisim United Kingdom

Check your connection
Turn off Wi-Fi and open a map or website. If it loads, mobile data is working. If it does not, turn airplane mode on for about 30 seconds, turn it off and wait for a connection. Recheck the selected line and package settings.

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.
04 / Operators
Mobile operators in the United Kingdom
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Travellers usually compare the four national UK mobile networks: EE, O2, Vodafone and Three. Available eSIM packages may use EE, O2 or 3 depending on the product page.
EE
Use EE’s public checker to look up predicted coverage and network status for the places on your route. [1] [3] [7]
Check coverage ↗O2
O2 provides a public checker for local 4G and 5G availability in a chosen area. [1] [4] [7]
Check coverage ↗Three
Three’s public coverage page is useful for checking your main stops before you buy. [1] [2] [5] [7]
Check coverage ↗Vodafone
The sourced Vodafone page is a network information page rather than a public mobile coverage map. Check the local signal tools linked from Vodafone before relying on a specific area. [1] [6] [7]
Official website ↗| Operator | Coverage Experience / 10 | Download · Mbps | Study date |
|---|---|---|---|
| EE | 8.8 | — | 2026-01[7] |
| O2 | 9 | — | 2026-01[7] |
| Three | 8.1 | — | 2026-01[7] |
| Vodafone | 8.5 | — | 2026-01[7] |
Coverage Experience is a score, not a percentage of territory. These dated averages are not promised speeds for your connection.
The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across the United Kingdom
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- London
- Glasgow
- Isle of Arran
- Gower Peninsula
London
In London, mobile data is most useful for live Tube and bus changes, step-free routing and station-to-station transfers. Keep TfL Go for city transport and National Rail if the same day includes a mainline train. [8] [9] [11]
Glasgow
Glasgow works well as both a city stop and a rail base. If you are arriving by train or continuing elsewhere in Great Britain, keep National Rail handy and save the areas you need in Google Maps before leaving Wi-Fi. [9] [10] [12]
Isle of Arran
For Arran, download maps before leaving the mainland. That is practical for ferry-linked travel, road legs across the island and days when you want directions ready without waiting for a fresh connection. [10] [13]
Gower Peninsula
For Gower, offline maps are a sensible backup for beach days and coastal walks. Check the next stop before leaving a village or main road so your route is already saved on the phone. [10] [14]
United Kingdom · eSIM
What to know before you buy
The United Kingdom has four main mobile networks that travellers usually compare: EE, O2, Vodafone and Three. Coverage can change noticeably between city streets, hotel interiors, busy stations and island or coastal routes, so it is worth checking the exact places on your itinerary instead of relying on a broad national impression. If a stop on your trip matters, look it up directly on the operator page before you choose a package.
Package rules matter as much as coverage. In our catalog, UK eSIM packages may use EE, O2 or 3 depending on the product page, and validity can start either on first connection or from purchase. Check the package screen before installing too early. It is also smart to confirm that your phone supports eSIM and works well on 4G or 5G, because UK operators are moving away from older 2G and 3G service.
Useful apps and travel tools
TfL Go ↗
Official London transport app for live line status, route planning, step-free journeys and arrival times across TfL services. [8]
National Rail ↗
Useful for live train information, journey planning, disruption updates and station details across Great Britain. [9]
Google Maps ↗
Lets you download areas for offline navigation before ferry crossings, rural drives and coastal days out. [10]
Before you buy
Check the exact route, not just the operator name
In the UK, each operator publishes its own coverage information. Signal can differ between city streets, hotel interiors, station platforms and island or coastal routes, so check the exact places where you expect to use data most often. [1] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Check when package validity begins
UK eSIM packages in our catalog do not all start the same way. Some begin on first connection, while others begin from purchase, so read the package page before installing too early. [15]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in the United Kingdom
Which UK networks should I compare before buying an eSIM?
Compare EE, O2, Vodafone and Three. These are the four national mobile networks travellers usually check in the UK, and signal can differ a lot between city centres, stations, hotels and coastal routes. It is more useful to check your real stops than to rely on a general country claim. [1] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Which network can a UK eSIM package use?
Available UK packages in our catalog may use EE, O2 or 3, depending on the product page. The package screen is the authoritative source, so do not assume that every UK eSIM uses the same network. [15]
When should I install or activate my eSIM for the UK?
Check the package start rule first. Some UK packages in our catalog start on first connection, while others start from purchase. If you buy early, read the package page before installing so you do not start validity sooner than you want. [15]
What apps are most useful for London and rail travel?
TfL Go is the key official app for London because it covers live line status, route planning, step-free journeys and arrival times across TfL services. If your trip also includes intercity or regional rail, National Rail is useful for live train information, disruption details and station information across Great Britain. [8] [9]
How should I prepare for Arran or Gower?
Download offline maps before you set out. On Arran, that helps with ferry-linked travel and moving around the island. In Gower, it is a practical backup for beach days and coastal walks, especially if you want your route saved on the phone before leaving the main road. [10] [13] [14]
How do I avoid problems with an older phone?
Make sure your phone supports eSIM and is ready for 4G or 5G use. Ofcom says UK operators are switching off 2G and 3G, so an older device may struggle even if a place has coverage. In that case, the limitation can be the phone rather than the network. [2]
