How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Give the new line a clear name
For example, “Letisim Guinea-Bissau”, so you can distinguish it from your home SIM. This is a label on your phone; it does not change the number or plan.
iPhone: Settings → Cellular / Mobile Service → new eSIM → Cellular Plan Label → Custom
Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name
Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name
Huawei: SIM management → SIM 2 → your eSIM → Card name. You can keep the existing label if no rename option is shown.
Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.
Line name: Letisim Guinea-Bissau

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.
04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Guinea-Bissau
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Compare Orange Bissau, Telecel for your route. Check which network is included in the selected eSIM, then confirm coverage for your accommodation and trip stops.
Orange Bissau
The national regulator publishes mobile radio coverage maps and 2G/3G/4G station lists for Orange Bissau, which is the right place to check where service is actually mapped by the operator. [1] [2] [3]
Check coverage ↗Telecel
ARN publishes mobile coverage maps and infrastructure lists for Telecel as well, so travellers can compare the operator’s mapped footprint before choosing a plan. [1] [2] [3]
Check coverage ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.

Coverage across Guinea-Bissau
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Bissau
- Varela and the northwest coast
- Bijagós Islands
- Gabú and the eastern interior
Bissau
Bissau is the easiest place to finish setup, test the eSIM and confirm data works before heading out of the capital. It is also the best place to sort out any account or APN issue while support, shops and transport are close together. [1] [3] [6]
Varela and the northwest coast
For the beach road and smaller coastal settlements, download offline maps before leaving the city and keep addresses saved in advance. Google Maps offline navigation can guide a route you already saved, but live traffic and transit options disappear offline. [5] [6]
Bijagós Islands
Island trips are worth preparing for in advance: save maps, pin your hotel or lodge, and do not assume the same connection pattern as on the mainland. UNESCO describes the archipelago as a protected coastal and marine area with island-based access and management, so practical connectivity planning matters on boats and between islands. [5] [6]
Gabú and the eastern interior
On longer inland trips, install the eSIM before departure and keep a second way to reach maps or ride apps in case you move away from the main towns. A downloaded map of your route is the simplest backup. [2] [6]

What to know before you buy
Guinea-Bissau’s mobile market is officially mapped by the national regulator, which publishes coverage pages and station lists for Orange Bissau and Telecel. That makes it possible to compare the operators’ shown footprints before you choose a plan, instead of guessing from a storefront logo or a traveller forum.
For trips that stay close to Bissau, setup is usually straightforward: install the eSIM, test mobile data and keep your phone ready for rides and messaging. For coastal or island travel, especially toward Varela or the Bijagós area, it helps to download offline maps first and save addresses, because the most useful travel tools are the ones that still work when signal is patchy or you are between connections.
Useful apps and travel tools
Google Maps ↗
Useful for turn-by-turn navigation, saved places and offline map downloads before road trips, ferry crossings or city transfers. [6]
Before you buy
Check coverage maps before choosing a route
ARN publishes radio coverage maps and station lists for both mobile operators, which is useful for seeing what each operator officially maps in the country. For a traveller, that is more practical than assuming every road, beach or island has the same service quality. [2] [1]
Use offline maps as a real backup
Google Maps can be downloaded for offline use, and the saved route will keep working when internet is slow or unavailable, as long as the whole route fits inside the downloaded area. This is especially useful for hotel transfers, day trips and island connections. [6]
Bijagós is a special case for planning
UNESCO’s description of the archipelago highlights its island geography, protected marine areas and inter-island nature. That means travellers should plan messages, maps and meeting points before boarding, not after landing. [5] [6]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Guinea-Bissau
Which mobile networks should I expect in Guinea-Bissau?
The national regulator’s links page identifies Orange Bissau and Telecel as the current national mobile operators, and its coverage page provides separate 2G, 3G and 4G map layers and station lists for both. For a traveller, that means you can check the official mapped footprint of each network before deciding which eSIM to buy. It does not guarantee the same experience everywhere, but it is the most useful public starting point for comparison. [1] [2] [3]
Is an eSIM useful if I only stay in Bissau?
Yes. In the capital, an eSIM is mainly about convenience: you can activate data quickly, keep maps open, use ride-hailing or taxi messages and avoid hunting for a physical SIM desk after arrival. It is also the best place to test whether your phone is correctly configured before you travel farther from the city. [2] [6]
What should I do before a trip to the coast or islands?
Download offline maps before departure, save your hotel and arrival point, and keep key addresses written down. Google Maps supports offline navigation for downloaded areas, which is helpful when you move by road, ferry or between smaller settlements. That preparation matters most for routes where you may change transport mode or spend time away from a steady connection. [5] [6]
Can I rely on one operator for the whole country?
It is safer to think in terms of routes rather than promises. ARN publishes maps for both Orange Bissau and Telecel, but no public source can guarantee identical coverage on every road, island or inland stretch. Choose the plan that matches where you are actually going, and keep offline maps ready as a backup. [1] [2]
When should I install the eSIM?
Install it before you need it, ideally while you still have a stable connection. That gives you time to scan the QR code, set up mobile data and confirm that the profile is active. If your plan starts on first connection, you still benefit from installing early so the phone is ready the moment you land or reconnect. [4] [6]
Do I still need my home SIM?
Usually yes, if you want to keep your normal number for bank codes, SMS or calls from home. A data eSIM is separate from your home SIM charges, so your domestic line can remain available while the eSIM handles local data. That is especially useful when you want maps and messages without changing your primary number. [4] [6]
