Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.

  1. 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
  2. 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
  3. Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
  4. The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

How to install an eSIM in Liberia

Your first eSIM? Here is what to open and what to tap.

Check the exact model, regional variant and system version. If Add eSIM or EID is missing, contact support before buying. A brand name alone does not confirm compatibility.

Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.

These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Before your trip · install the eSIM

Use a stable Wi-Fi connection or hotspot. Your exact phone model must support eSIM and be unlocked for other operators.

  1. 01

    Open your eSIM installation

Connect the phone you will use for your eSIM to Wi-Fi. Choose one of the two options below. If this eSIM is already installed, skip to choosing the line for mobile data.

The app or email on this phone

In the Letisim app, open My eSIMs, choose your purchased eSIM and tap Install. On the preparation screen, tap Copy name and install.

Or open your eSIM email on this same phone and tap Install eSIM. If the link opens your order page first, use the installation button shown there.

A QR code on another screen

Open your eSIM’s QR code from the email or order on a computer, tablet or another phone. Point the camera of the phone you are installing the eSIM on at the code, then tap the installation prompt.

Both options lead to the phone’s system setup. Continue with step 2.

The button or camera did not open setup?

You can add the eSIM by scanning its QR code in Settings. Follow the path below, choose the QR scanner and use the code for your own purchase. If the QR is on this same phone, see the options without a second screen below the guide.

Give the new line a clear name

For example, “Letisim Liberia”, so you can distinguish it from your home SIM. This is a label on your phone; it does not change the number or plan.

iPhone: Settings → Cellular / Mobile Service → new eSIM → Cellular Plan Label → Custom

Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name

Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name

No second screen for your QR code?

If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.

04 / Operators

Mobile operators in Liberia

Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.

Liberia’s numbering plan lists Lonestar Cell MTN, Orange LBR and LTC Mobile. Compare the network in your package for your accommodation and route; operator names alone do not establish reception at a particular stop.

Lonestar Cell MTN

The operator says it has Liberia’s most widespread LTE coverage, but the gathered primary sources do not provide a public coverage checker or map to verify street-by-street service before travel. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Official website ↗

Orange Liberia

Orange publishes service and expansion notes rather than a public coverage checker. The company states that coverage expansion is ongoing and that service is not uniform nationwide, so travelers should treat Monrovia and other towns separately from rural stretches. [1] [2] [6] [10] [11]

Official website ↗

LTC Mobile

The regulator lists LTC Mobile as operational, but the public sources gathered here do not provide a usable coverage map or traveller-facing coverage checker for this network. [1] [2]

Official website ↗

The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.

05 / Coverage

Coverage across Liberia

Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.

🇱🇷 Liberia
  1. Monrovia and the capital corridor
  2. Robertsport and the northwest coast
  3. Greenville and the southeastern route
  4. Sapo National Park and inland forest travel

Monrovia and the capital corridor

Monrovia is the easiest place to sort out a SIM or eSIM setup, buy a backup top-up method, and test data before leaving the city. If your route runs through Sinkor, Paynesville, the airport road or the main hotel zone, check the signal early because practical connectivity can change block by block. [3] [6] [9] [13] [14]

Robertsport and the northwest coast

Robertsport is a beach and surf destination, so it is worth downloading offline maps and arranging messaging access before you leave Monrovia. If you plan to move along coastal roads or stay outside the town center, assume that convenience matters more than constant high-speed data and keep a second way to reach drivers or hosts. [13] [14] [15] [16] [18]

Greenville and the southeastern route

Greenville can be a useful overnight stop on the long trip toward Sapo National Park. For this corridor, prepare maps, ride contacts and hotel details in advance, because the practical need is to stay oriented and reachable while moving through a multi-hour road journey rather than to rely on a single network assumption. [13] [14] [15] [16] [19] [20]

Sapo National Park and inland forest travel

Sapo is a major rainforest destination, and the journey there is long enough that offline navigation, cached booking details and a charged power bank matter more than expecting continuous mobile service. Plan to download everything you need before leaving the main towns. [13] [14] [15] [16] [18]

Liberia · eSIM

Why travelers use a data eSIM

Liberia’s mobile market is relatively small, and the regulator’s numbering plan lists three operational mobile voice/data networks: Lonestar Cell MTN, Orange LBR and LTC Mobile. In practice, traveler-facing information is clearest for the first two, while Orange notes that coverage expansion continues and is not identical everywhere. That makes a data eSIM useful as part of a simple travel setup rather than as a promise of perfect service everywhere.

For visitors, the smart approach is to prepare for different trip patterns. Monrovia is the easiest place to set up and test service; Robertsport and the south-east are better handled with offline maps and saved trip details; and the long road to Sapo National Park can justify having both an active data line and a backup way to contact your driver or host. A data eSIM is mainly about reducing friction for navigation, communication and quick bookings while you move between these zones.

Useful apps and travel tools

Google Maps ↗

A practical navigation app for Liberia, especially if you download offline maps before leaving Monrovia. Useful for route planning, saved places and reaching hotels, airports and attractions without relying on live data the whole time. [16] [17]

MAPS.ME ↗

An offline-first map app that is handy for coastal roads, rural detours and forest-area travel where mobile data may be inconsistent. It is a good backup if you want maps that work even when signal quality drops. [18]

Ride Liberia ↗

A Liberia-focused ride-hailing app that can help with city transfers and airport-to-hotel trips when you prefer app-based transport. Check availability in the area you are in, since practical service depends on local driver supply. [20]

Before you buy

What to expect from mobile coverage

Primary sources show Liberia has three operational mobile networks in the regulator numbering plan, but traveller-facing coverage detail is uneven. Orange itself says expansion is ongoing and that service does not cover the whole country in the same way everywhere, while MTN promotes broad LTE reach. For a visitor, that means the safest approach is to treat city data and road-trip data differently, not to assume a single network experience across the whole map. [1] [2] [3] [6] [11]

Where to sort out service first

Monrovia is the best place to activate a line, test data and arrange any backup option before a road trip. Orange lists multiple shops in the capital and at key points such as the airport road, while MTN also shows store presence in Monrovia. Doing setup in the capital reduces the chance that you will be troubleshooting a new SIM or payment method after leaving the main urban area. [5] [8] [9]

Offline maps are especially useful

Google Maps supports offline map downloads, and MAPS.ME is built around offline mapping. That is useful for coastal driving, long inland transfers and nature trips where you may want the map even when mobile data is weak or switched off. [16] [17] [18]

06 / FAQ

Questions about eSIM in Liberia

Which network should I expect to see in Liberia?

Compare Lonestar Cell MTN, Orange Liberia and LTC Mobile with the network listed in your eSIM package. Check current operator coverage information or ask about the exact places on your route. Reception in Monrovia does not establish the same result along every road or at inland stops. [1] [2] [3] [6]

Is Monrovia the best place to set up a data line?

Yes. Monrovia is the most practical place to activate a line, test data and make sure your phone is working before you head out. Orange lists several stores and POS points in and around the capital, and MTN also shows a store presence there. If you are heading to the coast, the airport road or the south-east, getting set up in the capital first reduces hassle later. [5] [8] [9]

Should I rely on mobile data for the trip to Robertsport or Sapo?

Not only on mobile data. Robertsport is a coastal leisure destination and Sapo National Park is a long inland journey, so offline maps and saved booking details are worth having even if your line works well in town. The practical goal is to stay oriented and reachable when service becomes less predictable on the road. [13] [14] [15] [16] [18]

Can I use a travel app instead of a local SIM?

A travel app can help, but it does not replace mobile data by itself. Google Maps and MAPS.ME are useful for navigation, and Ride Liberia can help with city transport where it is available. For messaging, maps and taxi booking, a data connection still makes the experience smoother, especially outside the most central parts of Monrovia. [16] [17] [18] [20]

What is the safest way to prepare for a road trip in Liberia?

Download offline maps before departure, save your hotel and driver details, and keep a power bank charged. Google Maps supports offline areas, and MAPS.ME is built for offline use. That matters on long drives, where the real issue is not just speed but whether you can keep navigating and communicating if signal quality changes during the trip. [16] [17] [18]
