How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.
04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Nauru
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
The current national mobile networks evidenced by official government and operator sources are Digicel and Neotel (Telikom Nauru). Travellers should still check device compatibility, the plan’s data rules, and whether service begins at purchase, installation, or first connection.
Digicel
Ask Digicel about mobile coverage at your accommodation and along your route. Check the network listed in the eSIM package before purchase. [2] [3] [4] [5]
Official website ↗Neotel
Neotel is the trading name used by Telikom Nauru for its mobile service. The official site presents the network as Nauru’s first 5G Plus service, but no public coverage tool was available to link as a traveller-facing map. [1] [6]
Official website ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Nauru
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Yaren District and the civic centre
- Aiwo and the port side
- Anibare Bay and the east coast
- Command Ridge, Buada Lagoon and the interior loop
Yaren District and the civic centre
This is the most convenient starting point for arrivals because government offices, airport-linked errands and many practical services are concentrated here. Set up your data plan before you depend on taxis, messaging or map searches, then confirm which network your phone registers after landing. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Aiwo and the port side
The port and civic-centre side is useful for short stays, errands and store visits. Keep offline directions ready because indoor signal can vary between buildings, and use customer-care contacts if you need help with plan activation or network settings. [2] [3] [4] [5]
Anibare Bay and the east coast
Beach time and coastal drives are easier when maps are downloaded in advance, because you may move between open shoreline, road sections and stops with different indoor conditions. If you plan to share photos or navigate often, choose a data amount that fits that pattern rather than a minimal bundle. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]
Command Ridge, Buada Lagoon and the interior loop
These inland stops work well as one loop, which makes battery and data use easier to manage. Download offline maps before leaving accommodation, and treat any single stop as just one point on the route rather than a guarantee of identical conditions everywhere nearby. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]

What to expect from mobile data in Nauru
Nauru’s mobile market is small, so the main decision is usually not a long operator comparison but choosing a plan that matches how you use data on arrival and during short island trips. Official government and operator sources identify Digicel and Neotel as the current national mobile services, with Digicel documenting LTE use and Neotel presenting its mobile service as 5G Plus. That makes device compatibility and plan rules the two most important checks before you buy.
For travellers, the most useful approach is to think in terms of routes and activities rather than assuming one setting fits the whole island. Airport arrivals, Yaren errands, the Aiwo port area, Anibare Bay and inland stops such as Buada Lagoon or Command Ridge can all place different demands on battery, signal stability and data use. Offline maps are worth downloading in advance, especially if you want a dependable backup when you move between accommodation, beaches, viewpoints and the ring-road loop.
Useful apps and travel tools
Apple Maps ↗
Useful for familiar navigation, saved places and offline maps when you want a mainstream map app that can still work without cellular service. [9] [10]
Google Maps ↗
A practical fallback for route search, place lookup and offline area downloads when you prefer Google’s mapping ecosystem. [11]
Before you buy
Getting connected on arrival is the main convenience
Nauru is compact, so many visitors want data working immediately for messages, maps and pickup coordination. An eSIM is helpful if you want to avoid searching for a physical SIM after landing, but keep your home SIM charges separate and check whether the travel plan starts at purchase, install or first connection. [2] [3] [4]
Use operator details, not assumptions, for coverage checks
Official government and operator material confirms national mobile services, but it does not replace a live coverage tool for a specific street, building or shoreline. Before buying, compare the operator’s support details, your handset’s LTE settings and the places you actually expect to visit. [1] [2] [3] [5] [6]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Nauru
Which mobile networks should I expect in Nauru?
The current national mobile services identified from official sources are Digicel and Neotel, the trading name of Telikom Nauru’s mobile service. That does not mean every eSIM plan includes both networks, so the plan page and compatibility details still matter. If your phone supports only some LTE bands or has eSIM limits, check those before purchase so you are not relying on assumptions after landing. [1] [2] [3] [6]
Is an eSIM better than buying a local SIM on arrival?
If you want internet immediately for maps, pickup messages or directions, an eSIM is often the easier start because you can install it before the trip. A local SIM can still work well if you prefer in-person setup or need a store visit, and Digicel lists both a retail shop and an airport kiosk in Nauru. The better choice depends on whether you value pre-arrival setup or face-to-face assistance more. [2] [3] [4]
Will one small data plan be enough for a short stay?
It may be enough if you only use maps, text messages and light browsing, but not if you plan to share photos often, stream video or use navigation throughout the day. Nauru is compact, yet trip patterns vary: a beach afternoon at Anibare Bay, an inland tour to Buada Lagoon or Command Ridge, and repeated route checks all add up. Choose the bundle based on actual habits, not just the island’s size. [7] [8]
Can I rely on mobile data everywhere on the island?
You should expect variation between open roads, indoor spaces and coastal or port areas, so it is smarter to treat mobile data as useful travel connectivity rather than a guarantee for every spot. Official material confirms national services, but it does not provide a public street-by-street coverage map here. Keep offline maps available and use operator support if you need help with LTE settings or manual network selection. [1] [2] [3] [5] [6] [9] [10] [11]
What should I do before flying if I want the smoothest setup?
Check that your phone is eSIM-capable, unlocked and compatible with the relevant network bands, then install the profile before departure if your plan allows it. Keep your home SIM separate for calls or banking texts, and only switch mobile data to the travel eSIM when you are ready to use it. If activation depends on first connection, wait until you actually land in Nauru. [3] [5]
