How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.
04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Slovenia
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
AKOS reports four operators in the public mobile network market: A1 Slovenija, Telekom Slovenije, Telemach and T-2. That is the most practical operator set for travellers checking Slovenian SIM or eSIM coverage.
A1 Slovenija
Operator information page with network and coverage details; useful for checking whether your route is within A1 service areas. [1] [6]
Check coverage ↗Telekom Slovenije
Official mobile coverage page; travellers can use it to check signal availability before relying on data in cities, on highways or in the mountains. [1] [4]
Check coverage ↗Telemach
Official network page with a coverage map and a note that results are simulated, so it is best used as a planning tool rather than a guarantee. [1] [5]
Check coverage ↗T-2
Operator signal information page; the public material is less direct than the other operators’ coverage tools, so verify before travel if T-2 is your likely provider. [1] [7]
Check coverage ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Slovenia
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Ljubljana & Central Slovenia
- Julian Alps and Triglav National Park
- Soča Valley
- Maribor and Pohorje
Ljubljana & Central Slovenia
Best for a first arrival, hotel check-in, ride-hailing and train/bus planning. In the capital, any of the national networks is usually practical for everyday navigation, but coverage pages are still worth checking if you will be moving between the centre, the ring road and hill viewpoints. [1] [4] [6] [8]
Julian Alps and Triglav National Park
This is the place to download offline maps and save tickets before leaving town. The park and surrounding alpine valleys are ideal for planning ahead because you may move between valleys, trailheads and mountain huts rather than staying in one dense urban area. [8] [9] [10]
Soča Valley
Useful for road trips, rafting days and multi-stop sightseeing. Treat coverage tools as route planners, then keep a downloaded map and your accommodation address available in case you move through smaller settlements, river bends or trail access roads. [9] [10]
Maribor and Pohorje
Good for city transport, wine trips and nearby hill escapes. A data eSIM is handy for bus timetables, bike-share and restaurant searches, especially when you move between the city, vineyards and the slopes above Pohorje. [11]
Slovenia · eSIM
What to know before you buy
Slovenia’s mobile market is built around four public mobile operators, so it makes sense to compare the operator coverage tools before you choose a plan. A city stay in Ljubljana, a rail journey to Maribor and a drive into the Julian Alps can all benefit from different coverage expectations, even when the same SIM or eSIM works well on paper.
For travellers, the safest approach is to match the eSIM to your itinerary rather than to a single national slogan. If you will mainly be in Ljubljana or Maribor, everyday data use is straightforward; if you are heading into Triglav National Park, the Soča Valley or the coastal towns around Piran, downloading offline maps and saving accommodation details before departure is smart planning. OpenSignal’s Slovenia report is a useful dated benchmark for national mobile experience, but it is not a promise of service at a specific spot.
Useful apps and travel tools
Google Maps ↗
A reliable default map app for route planning, place search and turn-by-turn navigation across Slovenia. [13]
Grem z vlakom ↗
Official Slovenian Railways mobile app for checking timetables, disruptions and buying rail tickets within Slovenia. [14]
Arriva Piran ↗
Local city-bus app for Piran with contactless payment, trip planning and arrival information. [15]
Before you buy
Check coverage by route, not just by city
AKOS shows that Slovenia has four public mobile operators, and operator coverage pages let you check where service is expected. For travellers, that matters more than a simple country-wide claim because a city stay, a motorway drive and an alpine hike can all feel different on the same SIM. [1] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]
Use rail and bus apps for live trip decisions
The Grem z vlakom app from Slovenian Railways supports timetable checking, disruptions and ticket purchase, while Arriva Piran is useful for urban buses in Piran. These apps are practical when you need schedule changes or local boarding information on the move. [14] [15]
Keep maps available offline in mountain and coastal areas
Google Maps supports directions, place details and offline use features through the app, which makes it a good backup if you are moving through the Julian Alps, Soča Valley or the coastal towns around Piran. Download your map area before you leave Wi‑Fi. [13] [9] [10] [12]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Slovenia
Which mobile networks should I compare for Slovenia?
The practical national set is A1 Slovenija, Telekom Slovenije, Telemach and T-2. AKOS lists four operators in the public mobile network market, so those are the main names worth checking when you want to understand how coverage may differ by route. The coverage pages on each operator’s site are the best first stop before you decide on an eSIM. [1] [4] [5] [6] [7]
Is one eSIM enough for Ljubljana and the countryside?
Usually yes, but it depends on where you spend time. Ljubljana and Maribor are urban centres where ordinary data use is usually easy, while alpine and valley itineraries are better handled by choosing a plan after checking coverage along the exact route. For the Julian Alps, Triglav National Park and the Soča Valley, it is sensible to keep offline maps available as a backup. [8] [9] [10] [11] [13]
What should I do before a trip to the mountains or the Soča Valley?
Download maps, save your hotel or apartment address and keep your ticket information ready before you leave reliable Wi‑Fi. The official tourism material highlights the Julian Alps, Triglav National Park and the Soča Valley as major outdoor areas, which makes advance preparation more useful than relying on last-minute search results after you arrive. [9] [10] [13]
Do I need local apps for trains and buses?
They are very useful if you are moving around the country. Slovenian Railways offers the Grem z vlakom mobile app for timetables, disruptions and ticket purchase, and Arriva Piran is useful for Piran city buses. Google Maps is a good general map backup for route planning and directions. [13] [14] [15]
Which regions are most useful for a traveller choosing data?
The most practical trip areas to think about are Ljubljana & Central Slovenia, the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park, the Soča Valley, and Maribor with Pohorje. These cover the most common combinations of city time, rail travel, scenic drives and outdoor activity, which is why route-based coverage checks matter more than a single nationwide impression. [8] [9] [10] [11]
Can I rely on coverage maps as a guarantee?
No. Operator coverage pages are planning tools, not guarantees of signal at every exact point. Telemach’s own map notes that its coverage display is based on computer simulations, and that is a good reminder to treat all coverage tools as estimates rather than promises. [5]
