How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Greenland
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Greenland is effectively a single-network market for this page: official Greenland government material identifies Tusass as the sole telecommunications provider in Greenland, so the current national mobile-network list is Tusass.
Tusass
Tusass states that mobile service is available only where there is mobile coverage, and its support pages direct users to Tusass channels for current coverage information. No separate public coverage map page was verified for this country page. [1] [2]
Official website ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Greenland
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Nuuk and the capital area
- Kangerlussuaq and the airport corridor
- Sisimiut and the western coastal route
- Ittoqqortoormiit and the northeast park area
Nuuk and the capital area
For a city stay, keep data active for maps, taxi bookings and messages, and download offline essentials before day trips. Nuuk is the most practical place on this list for ordinary phone use, but fjord outings still benefit from offline navigation and saved trip details. [5] [9]
Kangerlussuaq and the airport corridor
Treat this as a transit-and-excursion base: data is most useful for check-ins, transfers and weather-sensitive changes. Save directions, accommodation contacts and boarding information in advance, because trips here often depend on the next flight or vehicle rather than short urban hops. [6] [9]
Sisimiut and the western coastal route
If your itinerary links flights, ferries and hiking, keep enough mobile data for live updates and messaging. This route is useful to think about as a chain of transport legs, so the safest plan is to download maps and confirmations before leaving a settled area. [5] [6]
Ittoqqortoormiit and the northeast park area
Plan for a very different travel pattern here: mobile use depends much more on whether you are inside a covered settlement than on the wider region around it. For visits to the national park zone, offline maps, saved notes and pre-downloaded logistics are the safest companion to any data plan. [7] [8]

Why a Greenland eSIM helps on this trip
Greenland travel is built around a few towns, airports and coastal links rather than one continuous urban network. That makes mobile data especially useful for the practical gaps between transport legs: finding your accommodation, checking departure times, coordinating pickups and keeping maps open when weather or schedules change. Tusass is the network to check first, because official Greenland government material identifies it as the sole telecommunications provider in the country, and Tusass says mobile service is available only where there is mobile coverage.
Outside the main settlements, your experience becomes much more route-specific. Nuuk is the easiest place on this list for everyday phone use, while Kangerlussuaq works more as a transit and excursion base, Sisimiut sits on a western coastal travel chain, and Ittoqqortoormiit plus the northeast park area call for a stronger offline plan. That means the smartest setup is usually a data eSIM plus offline maps, saved confirmations and a clear idea of where your itinerary stays near settlements and where it moves into longer, less connected stretches.

Before you buy
Tusass is the network to check first
Official Greenland government material identifies Tusass as the sole telecommunications provider in Greenland, and Tusass says mobile service is available only in areas with mobile coverage. For travellers, that means plan comparisons should focus on how much data you need and where on your route you expect to use it, not on choosing between multiple local networks. [1] [2]
5G and eSIM availability are separate questions
Tusass says it is building the 5G mobile network in Greenland and also offers a tourist eSIM product called Hello Greenland eSIM. A phone can support eSIM without every trip needing 5G, so the practical check is whether your device supports eSIM and whether the plan fits your route and data use. [3] [4]
Air travel is central to trip planning
Air Greenland’s official booking page highlights booking, check-in, flight information and boarding passes, which makes a connected phone especially useful when your itinerary depends on flights and connections across Greenland. Keeping booking details and updates available on your phone reduces friction during transfers. [9]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Greenland
Which mobile network should I expect in Greenland?
For this page, Tusass is the network to expect. Official Greenland government material describes Tusass as the sole telecommunications provider in Greenland, so the important comparison is not between several local operators but between different data amounts, validity choices and how well the plan fits the places you will actually visit. [1] [2]
Is mobile use similar in Nuuk, Kangerlussuaq and the far northeast?
No. Nuuk is the most city-like setting here, Kangerlussuaq is mainly a transit and excursion base, and Ittoqqortoormiit plus the northeast park area require much more careful offline preparation. The practical implication is simple: the farther your route moves from settlements and transport hubs, the more you should depend on downloaded maps and saved trip details. [5] [6] [7] [8]
Should I choose a small or large data plan?
Base the size on how often you will use live maps, messages and booking apps while moving between flights, boats and local transfers. A smaller plan can be enough for a short city break, but a larger allowance is more comfortable if your trip includes repeated navigation, frequent photo sharing or several days with limited Wi‑Fi. [5] [6] [9]
Can I rely on my eSIM in remote areas?
Only where there is mobile coverage. Tusass says service is available in areas with coverage, and the northeast regions are a very different environment from a city break. For those routes, the safest approach is to assume that mobile data is a helpful tool, not a guarantee, and to keep offline maps and booking details ready. [2] [7] [8]
What should I prepare before arrival?
Install the eSIM, make sure your phone supports eSIM, and download the essentials before you leave a stronger signal area. For Greenland, that usually means offline maps, reservation details and any transport information you may need if weather or schedules change while you are already on the move. [4] [9]
