How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.
04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Yemen
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
This comparison covers Yemen Mobile, Sabafon and YOU. Check which network is listed in your chosen eSIM package, then compare coverage for the places on your itinerary.
Yemen Mobile
The operator says it provides mobile and internet services across Yemen and states that its 4G service automatically falls back to 3G outside 4G coverage. [2]
Check coverage ↗Sabafon
Sabafon publishes a coverage section and says it serves major cities, towns, highways and remote areas across Yemen. [1]
Check coverage ↗YOU
YOU says it provides GSM services nationwide and continues expanding coverage in urban and rural areas across Yemen. [3]
Check coverage ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.

- Haraz and mountain routes
Sanaa
For the capital, the safest planning move is to keep offline maps ready and choose a plan that can hold up for messaging, ride-hailing and regular map checks. If you are moving between the old city, hotels and airport-area logistics, having a second network option is useful because operator experiences can differ by neighborhood. [2] [1] [6] [7]
Aden and the southern coast
Aden is a practical place to rely on live mobile data for navigation, messaging and booking tools, but it still makes sense to preload maps before longer coastal drives. If your trip includes ports, beaches or multi-stop ground transfers, a data-only eSIM works best when paired with offline route details. [1] [3] [6] [8]
Socotra
Socotra is a UNESCO natural heritage site with very distinctive terrain and island logistics, so download maps, hotel contacts and key directions before arrival. Treat mobile data as helpful for coordination rather than something to depend on continuously during island excursions. [4] [5] [6] [8]
Haraz and mountain routes
On mountain routes, the practical approach is to assume you will spend time away from easy service points and to prepare accordingly with offline navigation and downloaded documents. This is less about any single operator and more about keeping your trip usable when you are between towns. [4] [6] [8]

How mobile data works in Yemen
Yemen’s mobile market is best approached as a practical traveler choice rather than a single universal experience. Official operator pages show nationwide ambitions, but they also hint that service can vary by place, network generation and how far you move from major centers. A data eSIM is most useful when you want quick access for navigation and communication without relying on a single physical SIM.
For route planning, it helps to separate three needs: everyday city connectivity, longer ground transfers and location-specific trips such as Socotra. In the cities, live data is convenient for ride-hailing and messaging. On roads and in remote terrain, offline maps become more important. On island itineraries, pre-downloaded information and a backup plan are especially sensible.
Useful apps and travel tools
Google Maps ↗
Useful for turn-by-turn navigation, place search and offline areas when you want a single app for taxis, hotels and landmarks. [6]
Apple Maps ↗
A practical option for iPhone users who want built-in routing and place details, with regional map coverage that can vary by area. [7]
MAPS.ME ↗
Helpful if you want offline maps ready before landing or before a long overland day. [8]
Before you buy
What to check before you choose a plan
Match the plan to how you travel: short city stays usually need steady messaging and maps, while road trips and island days benefit from larger data allowances and offline backups. In Yemen, it is sensible to keep your home SIM separate so unexpected voice or SMS charges stay distinct from the data eSIM. [1] [2] [3]
Why offline maps matter here
Google Maps, Apple Maps and MAPS.ME all support route planning, place lookup and map use that can help when you are moving through areas where you do not want to depend on constant connectivity. Downloading your key areas before departure makes navigation more reliable on arrival. [6] [7] [8]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Yemen
Which operator should I compare first?
Start with the three national brands confirmed from official operator sites: Yemen Mobile, Sabafon and YOU. Each presents itself as serving Yemen broadly, but the useful choice for a trip depends on where you are going and how much you rely on constant data. For a traveler, the best comparison is usually not a headline claim, but whether the package gives you enough data for maps, messaging and check-ins while you keep offline maps ready as backup. [1] [2] [3]
Is a data eSIM enough for a trip to Sanaa or Aden?
For many short stays, yes. A data eSIM is enough for maps, hotel contact, taxi apps and messaging, while your home SIM can stay in the phone for calls or banking texts if you need it. In Sanaa and Aden, the practical difference is usually less about the app itself and more about how prepared you are with downloaded maps, saved addresses and a second way to connect if one network is weak in a specific spot. [1] [2] [6] [7]
What should I do if my trip includes Socotra?
Treat Socotra as a place where preparation matters more than habit. Download maps, hotel details and transfer information before arrival, because island logistics make it smart not to depend on live data for every step. A larger data allowance can still be useful for coordination, photos and messages, but offline navigation and saved contacts should be part of the plan from the start. [4] [5] [6] [8]
Do I need offline maps in Yemen?
Yes, they are a good idea. Google Maps, Apple Maps and MAPS.ME all support map use and route planning in ways that help when you do not want to rely on constant connectivity. Offline maps are especially useful on longer road transfers, in mountain areas and whenever your day includes more than one stop. [6] [7] [8]
Can I keep my home SIM in the phone too?
Usually that is the safest setup for a traveler. Keep the data eSIM for internet and leave your home SIM available only if you want to receive calls or texts on it, because that makes roaming charges easier to separate from your data use. If you do not need your home line active, you can disable it while keeping the eSIM as your main connection. [2] [3]
