How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Check your connection
Turn off Wi-Fi and open a map or website. If it loads, mobile data is working. If it does not, turn airplane mode on for about 30 seconds, turn it off and wait for a connection. Recheck the selected line and package settings.

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.
04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Croatia
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
HAKOM’s coverage maps currently list three national mobile network operators: A1 Hrvatska, Hrvatski Telekom and Telemach Hrvatska. Coverage maps are useful for planning, but they are still maps, so travellers should verify the exact address or route they care about.
A1 Hrvatska
Use the operator’s interactive map to check the hotel, apartment or route you care about before you buy. It is a planning tool, not a guarantee of identical signal in every street, building or ferry crossing. [1] [4]
Check coverage ↗Hrvatski Telekom
The public coverage map helps you check mobile signal and internet availability by address. That is practical for city stays and road trips, but the real result still depends on congestion, the device and the exact spot where you use the phone. [1] [6]
Check coverage ↗Telemach Hrvatska
Use the public coverage page to compare your accommodation, road or island itinerary rather than relying on a broad destination label. Coverage can change between town centres, roads and harbour areas. [1] [5]
Check coverage ↗| Operator | Coverage Experience / 10 | Download · Mbps | Study date |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 Hrvatska | 7.5 | — | 2025-10[2] |
| Hrvatski Telekom | 8.6 | 89 | 2025-10[2] |
| Telemach Hrvatska | 6.9 | — | 2025-10[2] |
Coverage Experience is a score, not a percentage of territory. These dated averages are not promised speeds for your connection.
The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Croatia
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Zagreb
- Split and the central Dalmatian coast
- Island routes: Brač, Hvar and Cres
- Motorway corridors and coastal drives
Zagreb
For a city stay, check the exact address around your hotel, apartment and main transit stops before you arrive. Zagreb is a practical place to use an eSIM for maps, ride-hailing, messages and live traffic updates. [1] [6] [7] [10]
Split and the central Dalmatian coast
Split works well as a base for city stays, the harbour and coast-hopping day trips. If your route includes ferries, keep the sailing app ready and download offline maps before boarding. [1] [8] [9] [11] [12]
Island routes: Brač, Hvar and Cres
On island routes, coverage can change between the town centre, the ferry approach and quieter coastal stretches. Check the operator map for your accommodation and keep ferry and traffic apps ready for delays or route changes. [1] [4] [5] [9] [10] [11]
Motorway corridors and coastal drives
For self-driving trips, check the route in the operator map and pair the eSIM with offline maps. That helps when you move between towns, tunnels, toll roads and ferry terminals. [1] [6] [10] [12]

What to know before you choose
Croatia’s regulator currently lists three national mobile network operators: A1 Hrvatska, Hrvatski Telekom and Telemach Hrvatska. Their coverage maps are useful for planning, but they are still maps, so the exact result depends on the address, route, building and network load where you actually use the phone.
For a traveller, the most practical comparison is not a broad best-network label but a check of the exact hotel, apartment, ferry terminal or road you will use. Zagreb is straightforward for urban data use, Split is a practical base for coast and island travel, and the island routes around Brač, Hvar and Cres are where ferry timing and offline maps become especially useful.
Useful apps and travel tools
Croatia Traffic Info – HAK ↗
Official Croatian Automobile Club app with traffic conditions, border crossings, ferry updates, webcams, fuel prices and road help. Useful for drivers, airport pickups and island crossings. [10]
mJadrolinija ↗
Official Jadrolinija app for checking sailing schedules and buying tickets for Adriatic routes. Especially useful when your trip includes Split, island hops or return legs by sea. [9] [11]
Google Maps ↗
Offline maps can be downloaded in advance for navigation when mobile data is weak or you want to save traffic on a trip. [12]
Before you buy
Ferries matter on island itineraries
Croatia’s coastal trips often mix roads with ferries, especially when you are moving to or from islands. Checking sailing times and ticket rules before departure helps you avoid last-minute changes at the terminal. [9] [11] [10]
City centres, airports and harbours are the easiest places to start
Tourist city pages and transport apps are most useful right after arrival, when you need navigation, a ride, a ferry or a traffic update. Zagreb and Split are especially practical starting points for checking local routes and service details. [7] [8] [10] [11]
Check coverage by address, not by country label
Regulator and operator maps in Croatia are available for planning, but the useful check is the exact hotel, apartment, road or ferry point you will use. That is the most reliable way to compare plans for a trip. [1] [4] [5] [6]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Croatia
Which mobile networks can I expect in Croatia?
HAKOM’s current coverage maps list three national mobile operators: A1 Hrvatska, Hrvatski Telekom and Telemach Hrvatska. For travel planning, the useful step is to check the exact address or route you care about, because the map is only an indicator of likely service conditions. That matters most for hotels, apartments, roads, ferries and harbour areas. [1] [4] [5] [6]
Should I choose an eSIM mainly for Zagreb, Split or the islands?
If your trip is mostly urban, any of the national networks can be checked against the hotel or apartment address before you buy. If you are combining Split with island ferries, it is worth pairing the eSIM with offline maps and a ferry app so you still have navigation and timetable access when you board or transfer. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12]
Do I need a separate app for ferries and road travel?
It helps. The HAK app gives traffic conditions, border-crossing information, ferry updates and webcams, while mJadrolinija is useful for sailing schedules and tickets. Together they cover the most common trip changes that affect coastal and island itineraries. [9] [10] [11]
Can I rely on coverage maps alone when I choose a plan?
Use them as a planning tool, not as a promise. HAKOM says the operator maps are informational and can differ from actual user experience because of location and network load. That is why it is smarter to check the exact place you will sleep, drive or catch a ferry from. [1] [3] [4] [5] [6]
What should I prepare before arriving in Croatia?
Download your eSIM before the trip if your provider allows it, save offline maps, and keep your ferry or traffic app ready. That gives you a backup for navigation and route changes even before you get a local connection at the airport, hotel or harbour. [9] [10] [11] [12]
