How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.
Menu names can differ by phone model and system version.
04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Honduras
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
For mobile internet, compare Tigo and Claro, the networks identified in CONATEL’s 2024 mobile-internet figures. The network included in a travel eSIM is specified in its package details.
Tigo
Public coverage map for mobile and internet service; useful for checking where the operator expects usable signal before a trip or road transfer. [2] [5] [6] [7] [8] [3]
Check coverage ↗Claro
Claro publishes mobile service information. Ask the operator about coverage at the exact addresses and road sections you will use; a plan page does not establish reception along a route. [2] [9] [10] [3]
Official website ↗| Operator | Coverage Experience / 10 | Download · Mbps | Study date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tigo | 7.8 | 11.1 | 2023-11[3] |
| Claro | — | 31.5 | 2023-11[3] |
Coverage Experience is a score, not a percentage of territory. These dated averages are not promised speeds for your connection.
The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Honduras
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Tegucigalpa
- San Pedro Sula
- Copán Ruinas and the archaeological park
- La Ceiba
Tegucigalpa
For capital-city stays, compare the coverage map with your exact hotel or meeting area, because performance can change sharply between central districts, hillside roads and the airport corridor. If you will move around by taxi, keep offline maps ready before you land. [6] [13] [16] [17]
San Pedro Sula
Use the operator map to check the city itself and the route to your hotel, industrial areas or the airport. For short business trips, one reliable data line is often enough; for day trips outside the city, keep a backup navigation app installed. [6] [7] [13] [16] [17]
Copán Ruinas and the archaeological park
This is a good place to download maps, tickets and transport details before you leave the main city. Park visits and the road approach are easier when the phone already has the route saved, since you may want navigation for the highway, town center and site entrance separately. [14] [15] [16] [17]
La Ceiba
For a coast-and-ferry style itinerary, check signal expectations before you move between city hotels, the waterfront and onward transport. If you plan to continue by boat or road, download offline maps and keep messaging apps ready while you still have stable service. [13] [16] [17]

What to know before you buy
Tigo and Claro are the mobile-internet networks to compare for a trip to Honduras. CONATEL’s 2024 sector report records both in its mobile-internet figures. Check the network included in your package and the places where you will use it: the airport transfer, hotel, main roads and day-trip stops. Coverage at a town centre does not establish reception along the whole route.
Public coverage maps and real-world network reports are the best way to narrow the choice. A coverage map shows where the operator expects service, while a measurement report shows how users experienced the network at a specific time. Those are useful signals, but they are not a promise for every street, building or coastal road.
Useful apps and travel tools
Google Maps ↗
Useful for saved places, turn-by-turn navigation and offline maps when signal is patchy during intercity transfers or site visits. [16]
Waze ↗
Community-driven driving navigation that is handy for live traffic and rerouting on city roads and airport runs. [17]
Before you buy
Check the exact area, not just the city name
In Honduras, a city label on a plan or map is only a starting point. For hotel stays, airport transfers and day trips, the useful question is whether the signal holds in the exact district, road segment or attraction you will use most. Public coverage maps and traveler tools help with that comparison. [6] [16] [17]
Keep a second navigation option ready
Google Maps and Waze are both useful for getting around, but they solve slightly different problems. Google Maps is strong for saved places and offline use, while Waze focuses on live driving updates. Having both installed reduces friction when you cross from city streets to highways or tourist roads. [16] [17]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Honduras
Which mobile networks are available in Honduras?
For mobile data, compare Tigo and Claro. Check the network named in your package, then look at coverage for your accommodation, airport transfer and day-trip stops. Tigo publishes a coverage map; ask Claro about the exact locations relevant to your trip. [2] [5] [9] [11] [13]
How should I choose a plan for a short trip?
For a short stay, pick a plan with enough data for maps, taxi apps, ride updates and messaging, then check the operator coverage where you will spend most of your time. If your trip is mostly in one city, city coverage matters more; if you will move by road between several places, route coverage matters more. [6] [16] [17]
Is coverage the same in every part of Honduras?
No. A network can be strong in one district and weaker on another road or in a different town. The safest approach is to match the public coverage map and the travel route, then keep offline maps saved in advance so you can still navigate if the signal drops. [6] [8] [16] [17]
Which areas should I check most carefully?
The most useful checks are the airport and hotel corridor in Tegucigalpa, central and business areas in San Pedro Sula, the road and site approach for Copán Ruinas, and the city-to-coast movement around La Ceiba. Those are the places where a traveler is most likely to notice the difference between one network and another. [13] [14] [15] [16] [17]
What does the Opensignal report add?
It gives a dated snapshot of how users experienced the networks at the time of the study. For Honduras, the November 2023 report showed Tigo with a Coverage Experience score of 7.8 and Claro with a higher Download Speed Experience value than Tigo. That is useful background, but it should not be treated as a guarantee for today’s trip. [3]
Do I need to keep my home SIM active?
That depends on how you use your phone, but keep data eSIM use separate from any home-SIM voice or SMS charges. A travel data plan is for internet access; if you need calls or text on your home number, check your own carrier’s roaming terms separately before you go. [10] [11]
