How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Give the new line a clear name
For example, “Letisim Luxembourg”, so you can distinguish it from your home SIM. This is a label on your phone; it does not change the number or plan.
iPhone: Settings → Cellular / Mobile Service → new eSIM → Cellular Plan Label → Custom
Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name
Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name
Huawei: SIM management → SIM 2 → your eSIM → Card name. You can keep the existing label if no rename option is shown.
Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.
Line name: Letisim Luxembourg

04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Luxembourg
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Luxembourg’s regulator publishes mobile coverage maps by operator and technology, and the current market evidence points to three nationwide consumer mobile operators: POST Luxembourg, Tango Mobile, and Orange Luxembourg. The operator list below is a practical traveller-oriented list, not a promise that every package includes every network.
POST Luxembourg
Check the ILR mobile maps for operator-by-operator and technology-by-technology coverage. POST also points customers to the regulator’s map rather than promising the same experience everywhere. [1] [3] [11]
Check coverage ↗Tango Mobile
Tango’s public mobile offers are nationwide consumer plans; for coverage checks, the ILR map is the public tool to compare operator footprints. [1] [4] [11]
Check coverage ↗Orange Luxembourg
Orange publishes mobile offers and travel-oriented options, while the ILR map remains the neutral place to verify local coverage before you buy. [1] [5] [11]
Check coverage ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.

- Luxembourg City and Kirchberg
- Minett and Esch-sur-Alzette

- Mullerthal and the north
Luxembourg City and Kirchberg
This is the easiest place to stay connected for maps, taxis and public transport planning. The city has a dense mobility ecosystem, so a plan with steady 4G/5G data is usually more useful than chasing a special local add-on. [6] [7] [8] [10] [1]
Minett and Esch-sur-Alzette
If you are moving between Luxembourg City and the southern towns, keep the eSIM active before you leave the city and download maps in advance for industrial zones, rail stops and short border hops. [8] [9] [1] [2]
Moselle valley and Schengen
This is the area where border crossings and vineyard roads matter more than city-center habits. Make sure roaming, hotspot use and navigation are set up before you head out along the river. [8] [9] [1] [2]
Mullerthal and the north
For hiking and village-to-village travel, offline maps are a smart backup. In nature areas and smaller settlements, a data plan helps most when it is already installed and tested before departure. [8] [9] [1] [2]

What to expect from mobile data in Luxembourg
Luxembourg is small enough that many travellers can move around with one data eSIM, but the experience still depends on where you go and which operator footprint is documented for that area. The regulator publishes public mobile coverage maps by operator and technology, so you can compare local coverage instead of relying on broad marketing language.
For most visitors, the useful question is not whether the country is “covered”, but how your routes line up with the network you choose. The capital, the southern urban belt, the Moselle valley and the hiking areas each reward a slightly different setup: live routing in the city, border-aware navigation near Schengen, and offline map backup for trail days. That is why a traveller-friendly plan should be easy to install, simple to keep active and suitable for everyday data use rather than just headline claims.
Useful apps and travel tools
Mobiliteit.lu ↗
The official public transport app for Luxembourg. It combines route planning, maps and live travel information across bus, train, tram, bicycle and walking. [6]
CFL go ↗
CFL’s app is useful for rail-heavy trips, real-time schedules and tickets in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. [7]
Before you buy
A small country, but route choices still matter
Luxembourg is compact, borders Belgium, Germany and France, and has free public transport plus a strong rail-bus-tram network. That makes a data eSIM especially handy for live departures, ticket apps and last-minute route changes when you move between city streets, rail stations and border towns. [8] [6] [7]
Coverage maps are the right way to compare networks
The regulator publishes mobile maps by operator and technology, including 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G. For a traveller, that means you can compare where each network is actually documented rather than guessing from brand names or marketing claims. [1] [2]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Luxembourg
Which Luxembourg eSIM is best for city travel?
For city trips, choose a plan with enough everyday data for maps, ride-hailing, messaging and public transport apps. In Luxembourg City, a steady connection matters more than special extras. A simple plan that works well on the phone you already carry is usually the most practical choice, especially if you will switch between walking, trams, buses and trains during the day. [6] [7] [8]
Can I rely on one plan for border areas too?
Often yes, but border areas deserve a quick check before you leave. The Moselle valley and Schengen are practical examples: you may move close to France or Germany, and your data use may follow your route rather than a single town. The safest approach is to review the public coverage maps and keep navigation ready before you set out. [1] [2] [8]
Do I need offline maps in Luxembourg?
They are not mandatory, but they are a smart backup for walking routes, nature areas and village-to-village travel. In the capital you will usually be fine with live data, while hiking regions and quieter stops are more comfortable when your maps are already downloaded. That way you can keep moving even if you want to save battery or avoid constant refreshes. [9] [1] [2]
Which local apps are worth installing before arrival?
The two most useful apps for many visitors are Mobiliteit.lu and CFL go. Mobiliteit.lu is good for multimodal planning across bus, train, tram, walking and cycling, while CFL go is especially helpful for rail-focused trips, live updates and tickets. Installing them before you fly can save time once you land. [6] [7]
What should I check before installing the eSIM?
Make sure your phone supports eSIM and that the plan starts in a way that matches your trip timing. Some products begin at purchase, others when you first connect. It is also wise to keep your home SIM separate so you can still receive important calls or texts from home while using the data eSIM for local internet. [3] [4] [5]
