How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name
Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name
Huawei: SIM management → SIM 2 → your eSIM → Card name. You can keep the existing label if no rename option is shown.
Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.
Line name: Letisim Moldova

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.

04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Moldova
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Official regulator material identifies three providers of public mobile telephony in Moldova: Orange Moldova, Moldcell and Moldtelecom. Coverage should still be checked on each operator’s own map before travel, because service varies by place, technology and device.

05 / Coverage
Coverage across Moldova
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Chișinău
- Central Moldova and the Orhei area
- Southern Moldova and Gagauzia
- Northern Moldova and Bălți
Chișinău
In the capital, mobile data is usually easiest to rely on for taxis, maps and messaging, but still check the operator map around your hotel, station or suburban stay. If you plan to move between neighborhoods a lot, choose a plan with enough data for navigation and ride-hailing so you are not forced to depend on public Wi‑Fi. [1] [3] [5] [7]
Central Moldova and the Orhei area
For Orhei National Park, Cricova and Mileștii Mici, connectivity can change more quickly once you leave the main roads and urban edges. Download maps, meeting points and booking details in advance, then verify each operator’s coverage page for the exact access road or village you will use. [3] [4] [5] [6]
Southern Moldova and Gagauzia
Southbound trips often combine larger towns with winery or countryside stops, so the safest approach is to pick a plan that keeps working if your day extends beyond the city. Check coverage before setting out from Chișinău, especially if your schedule includes smaller settlements or several stops in one day. [1] [3] [5] [6]
Northern Moldova and Bălți
Bălți works well as a practical base for the north, but the useful question for travellers is what happens after the city. If you are continuing toward rural sights, winery visits or cross-district transfers, check the route rather than assuming the same experience will follow you everywhere. [1] [5] [6]
Moldova · eSIM
Why an eSIM helps in Moldova
Moldova’s mobile market has three public mobile providers: Orange Moldova, Moldcell and Moldtelecom. Their own coverage tools let you check service by area before you travel, which is useful because a city stay, a wine route and a countryside detour can feel very different on the same trip.
For travelers, the best choice is usually the plan that matches how much data you actually use and how long you stay connected. If you mainly need navigation, ride-hailing and messaging, a moderate bundle is often enough; if you will be moving across districts or spending long days outside the capital, it is smarter to leave room for offline maps, booking confirmations and route changes.
Useful apps and travel tools
Before you buy
What matters most for a short trip
For a city break, the main job of your eSIM is to keep maps, taxis and messaging apps online without depending on roaming voice bundles or hotel Wi‑Fi. In Moldova, that is especially useful for airport transfer days, food delivery, translation and finding entrances around older streets or wine cellars where you may not want to waste time hunting for a connection. [5] [6] [7]
How to compare plans without guessing
Look at the data allowance you actually use, the validity period, and whether the plan starts on purchase or first connection. A larger bundle only helps if it stays active long enough for your route; a smaller bundle can be enough for a city stay if you mainly use navigation and messaging. Keep your home SIM active only for calls or banking codes if needed, and let the eSIM handle mobile data. [10] [5] [6]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Moldova
Which mobile networks can I use in Moldova?
Official regulator material names three providers of public mobile telephony in Moldova: Orange Moldova, Moldcell and Moldtelecom. Each operator publishes its own coverage page, so the practical step is to compare the map for the places you will actually visit rather than relying on a countrywide impression. That is especially helpful if your trip mixes Chișinău with wineries, smaller towns or rural stops. [1] [2] [3] [4]
How should I choose a plan for a short stay?
For a short city break, pick a plan based on the data you will really use for maps, taxis, messaging and occasional browsing. If you expect mostly urban movement, you usually do not need a huge bundle; if you will take day trips to Orhei, Gagauzia or northern districts, choose enough data for route changes and booking checks, because those extras add up quickly. [5] [6] [7]
Is 5G important for Moldova travel?
5G can be useful, but it is not something to assume everywhere. The regulator’s 2025 statistics show that Orange Moldova and Moldcell already had some 5G coverage, while Moldtelecom had not yet reported 5G in that table. For a traveler, the safe approach is to treat 5G as a bonus and check the operator’s map for the exact area you care about. [1] [3] [4]
Will coverage be the same in the city and outside it?
No. Even when a provider has strong national coverage, your experience can change once you leave central streets for vineyards, parks or village roads. That is why it helps to download offline maps and check the operator’s own coverage page before you leave Chișinău or start a road trip to places like Orhei, Cricova or southern Moldova. [3] [4] [5] [6]
Can I rely on local transport apps in Chișinău?
Yes for planning, especially in the capital. Visit Chisinau lists Tranzy, SmartGuide and other useful apps for city visitors, which makes it easier to move around, find sights and avoid guessing at bus or trolleybus options. For the smoothest trip, install those apps before arrival so you are not dependent on spotty Wi‑Fi at the airport or hotel. [7] [8] [9]
Should I keep my home SIM active too?
Usually yes, if you still need it for calls, banking codes or a second number. The eSIM can handle mobile data while your home SIM stays available for whatever your carrier or apps require. Just remember that home-network roaming charges are separate from the data eSIM, so keep the two roles distinct when you travel. [10] [6]
