How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Give the new line a clear name
For example, “Letisim Saudi Arabia”, so you can distinguish it from your home SIM. This is a label on your phone; it does not change the number or plan.
iPhone: Settings → Cellular / Mobile Service → new eSIM → Cellular Plan Label → Custom
Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name
Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name
Huawei: SIM management → SIM 2 → your eSIM → Card name. You can keep the existing label if no rename option is shown.
Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.
Line name: Letisim Saudi Arabia

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.

04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Saudi Arabia
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
This comparison covers stc, Mobily and Zain KSA. Check which network is listed in your chosen eSIM package, then compare coverage for the places on your itinerary.
stc
The linked stc page describes 5G coverage. Check the exact location and the network generation included in your eSIM; 5G information alone does not describe every mobile package. [4] [5] [6] [16]
Check coverage ↗Mobily
Mobily offers a public coverage checker and explains that indoor performance can differ from outdoor signal. Travellers can verify a specific address or location on the map. [2] [5] [6]
Check coverage ↗Zain KSA
Zain’s public checker lets users search by location and click the map for more detail. It is useful for checking places like city centres, airports and highway stops. [3] [5] [6]
Check coverage ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Saudi Arabia
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Riyadh
- Jeddah and the Makkah corridor
- AlUla and Hegra
- Desert routes and remote driving
Riyadh
For the capital, check your eSIM before arrival if you need immediate use in taxis, ride-hailing and messaging after landing. Coverage tools can help you compare the exact neighbourhood or hotel area you will stay in. [1] [8]
Jeddah and the Makkah corridor
Around Jeddah, Al-Balad and the route toward Makkah, a traveller benefits from checking coverage both at the airport and at the accommodation, since movement patterns can change quickly during busy periods. In Makkah, the official bus app is useful for route guidance and live arrivals. [1] [9] [10] [11] [13]
AlUla and Hegra
For AlUla and Hegra, plan for long drives between attractions and verify service at your hotel, town centre and the road sections you will actually use. Download offline maps and tickets before leaving built-up areas. [1] [12] [7]
Desert routes and remote driving
On desert itineraries, coverage can vary sharply from one stop to the next, so it is practical to keep downloaded navigation, hotel details and key contacts available offline. A route with road service areas does not guarantee the same mobile experience between them. [1] [7]

What to expect from mobile data in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has a mix of strong city networks and route-dependent experience, so the best choice depends on where you will actually use data: airport transfers, hotel districts, city sightseeing or long intercity drives. The public coverage tools from the regulator and operators let you check a specific area before you travel, which is more useful than relying on a country-wide assumption.
For visitors, the most practical approach is to match the plan to the trip pattern. Riyadh benefits from quick setup on arrival, Jeddah and the Makkah corridor often need reliable data for navigation and transport tools, and AlUla or other desert itineraries are better served by preloaded offline maps plus a live connection where available. A separate travel eSIM keeps data costs distinct from your home SIM’s voice and roaming charges.

Before you buy
Official coverage checks are location-based
Saudi Arabia’s regulator offers interactive coverage maps, and the main operators also publish their own checkers. For a traveller, the most useful test is the exact address, district or stop you plan to use, not a country-wide assumption. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Makkah has destination-specific transport tools
The official Makkah Bus app is designed for route planning, live arrivals, ticketing and top-ups within Makkah. That makes mobile data especially useful for visitors who want to move around without relying on local signage alone. [11] [13]
Tourism information is centralized by Visit Saudi
Visit Saudi provides official destination pages for Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah and AlUla, which helps travellers plan stays, attractions and moving between districts before they go offline in transit. [7] [8] [9] [10] [12]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Saudi Arabia
Which network should I choose for a trip to Saudi Arabia?
Choose based on where you will spend time, not on a generic promise. stc, Mobily and Zain all publish public coverage checkers, so the most reliable way to compare them is to enter the exact hotel, district, airport or road stop you care about. That is especially helpful if you split your trip between Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah and AlUla, because the usage pattern changes from dense city areas to longer road segments. The current measurement report also shows that the three main networks lead on different performance traits, so the best fit can vary by destination and device rather than by brand alone. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Is an eSIM useful if I already have roaming on my home SIM?
Yes, if you want to keep data separate from your home number’s roaming charges. A travel eSIM is useful for maps, ride-hailing, hotel check-ins and messaging while your primary SIM stays available for calls or banking messages. That separation is often easier to manage than turning on roaming for all traffic, especially when you expect heavier data use in cities or during transfers between destinations. [7] [14]
Can I verify coverage before I arrive?
Yes. Saudi Arabia’s regulator provides an interactive coverage map, and each major operator also offers a public checker. You can search by address or click a point on the map to see the local situation. This is the safest way to judge whether your hotel, neighbourhood or route is a good match for the plan you are considering. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Do I need a special app for getting around Makkah?
For public transport inside Makkah, the official Makkah Bus app is genuinely useful because it combines routes, live arrival predictions, ticketing and top-up features. It is not a substitute for mobile coverage, but it does make data far more practical once you are moving around the city. Visitors who depend on it should download it before they arrive and keep offline directions as a backup. [11] [13]
What should I do differently for AlUla or desert drives?
Plan more conservatively than for a city break. Check the hotel, town centre and the specific road sections you expect to use, then save offline maps, accommodation details and booking references before leaving built-up areas. That way your phone remains useful for navigation even if the live connection changes between stops. [1] [7] [12]
When does an eSIM usually become active?
Activation timing depends on the product. Some plans start when you buy them, some when you install them and some when the device first connects to a network. The exact rule belongs to the package you select, so it is better to check that detail before purchase rather than assume one universal activation pattern. [15]
