How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name
Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name
Huawei: SIM management → SIM 2 → your eSIM → Card name. You can keep the existing label if no rename option is shown.
Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.

04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Jersey
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Compare JT and Sure for your Jersey route. Airtel is now part of Sure; check Sure’s current network information if an older guide or package uses the Airtel name.
JT
JT provides Jersey mobile service and support pages for network connection, 4G enablement and device checks. Use its local help pages to confirm current device compatibility and network access steps before travel. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Check coverage ↗Sure
Sure publishes an island upgrade page with parish-by-parish work updates and notes that it is bringing the Sure and Airtel mobile networks together into one modern network. That page is the best official place to check current upgrade-related disruption and rollout progress. [1] [5] [6] [12]
Check coverage ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Jersey
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Saint Helier
- East coast sites around Grouville and Gorey
- North-central Jersey around the zoo
- West and south-west Jersey, including Elizabeth Castle access
Saint Helier
This is the easiest place to sort out connectivity on arrival: use it for SIM pickup, account checks, bus planning and a quick test of signal before heading farther afield. If you are staying in town, compare operator coverage tools with your hotel location rather than relying on a general island impression. [1] [3] [5] [9]
East coast sites around Grouville and Gorey
Trips to Mont Orgueil and the La Hougue Bie area are better planned with offline maps and a second operator option, because you may move between town streets, coastal roads and heritage sites in a short time. Check coverage before setting off if you expect to use navigation or tickets outside St Helier. [7] [9]
North-central Jersey around the zoo
The Jersey Zoo area is a practical day-trip base for family visits and car or bus travel. Download maps and tickets in advance, then treat live data as a convenience rather than a requirement, especially if you are moving between the zoo, accommodation and dining stops. [8] [9] [10]
West and south-west Jersey, including Elizabeth Castle access
For tidal or ferry-linked visits such as Elizabeth Castle, plan the crossing details before you leave St Helier and keep essential information saved offline. Coastal sightseeing is easier when your map, timetable and reservation details are already on the phone. [7] [9]
Jersey · eSIM
Why connectivity matters here
Compare JT and Sure for your Jersey route. Airtel is now part of Sure; check Sure’s current network information if an older guide or package uses the Airtel name.
For most short trips, the smartest approach is to match your eSIM choice to your itinerary: central St Helier is the easiest place to sort out service and test data, while east-coast heritage visits, zoo days and tidal or coastal outings are better handled with offline maps plus a backup plan. A data eSIM is especially useful for navigation, transport updates and booking details, but it should sit alongside your home SIM for any home-number calls or SMS you still need.
Official bus information also matters because LibertyBus runs the island’s year-round services and its app provides live times, journey planning and route maps. That makes a stable data connection useful, but it also means you can reduce stress by downloading the app and saving key journeys before you leave your accommodation.
Useful apps and travel tools
LibertyBus ↗
Official Jersey bus app with live departures, route maps, journey planning and ticketing support for the island’s public transport network. [9] [10]
Before you buy
Public buses are the easiest backup for island travel
Government of Jersey says year-round bus services are operated by LibertyBus, and its mobile app provides live times, journey planning and route maps. For travellers, that means a data connection is useful for real-time travel, but you should still have the app or key journey details ready before boarding. [9] [10]
Operator upgrades can affect where service feels best
Sure’s 2026 network-update page shows parish-by-parish engineering work and says the company is combining the Sure and Airtel mobile networks. That makes it sensible to check the latest official network notices shortly before travel, especially if your stay depends on strong data at one particular address. [5] [6]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Jersey
Which mobile networks should I compare for Jersey?
The main current names to compare are JT, Sure and Jersey Airtel. Government sources identify JT and Sure as the two main providers of mobile, telephone and broadband services, while Jersey Airtel remains a licensed operator and Sure says it is merging the Sure and Airtel mobile networks. For a traveller, that means you should compare the current coverage pages and service notices rather than assuming one brand covers every route equally. [1] [2] [5] [6]
Is one operator enough for a short stay?
It can be, if your trip stays mostly in central St Helier and you do not depend on one exact stretch of coast or a rural address. But island trips often mix town streets, bus rides and heritage sites, so checking more than one operator is sensible if you want fewer surprises. The safest habit is to use official coverage tools and keep offline maps ready for transfers and sightseeing. [3] [5] [6] [9]
What parts of Jersey are most convenient for getting connected quickly?
Saint Helier is the most convenient place to sort out connectivity because it is the transport and service hub. After that, east-coast heritage areas, the zoo area and the castle access routes are the places where having mobile data saves time the most, mainly for directions, bus updates and ticket information. The practical benefit comes from preparing before you leave town rather than searching for service after you arrive. [7] [8] [9]
Do I still need my home SIM if I buy a data eSIM?
Yes, if you want calls or SMS on your usual number. A data eSIM is best for internet access, maps, transport apps and messaging over data, while your home SIM can stay active for number-based services if your device supports dual SIM. Keep roaming charges on the home SIM separate from the data eSIM so you know which line is being used for each task. [9] [10]
Is the LibertyBus app worth installing before I travel?
Yes. Government of Jersey says LibertyBus operates the island’s year-round bus service, and the app provides live times, journey planning and route maps. That is helpful anywhere on the island, but especially if you are moving between St Helier, the east coast and attraction visits where bus timing matters. [9] [10]
What should I check before activating an eSIM in Jersey?
Check that your phone is unlocked, supports eSIM, and can use mobile data on the network you plan to choose. Then confirm your chosen plan’s activation timing, because validity may begin at purchase, install or first connection depending on the product. If you are comparing operator service, also review the latest official network notices, especially where upgrades or 5G rollout work may affect the area you are staying in. [3] [5] [6]
