How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.

04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Liechtenstein
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
The regulator lists three licensed mobile network operators with their own national mobile networks in Liechtenstein: Telecom Liechtenstein AG (FL1), Swisscom (Schweiz) AG and Salt (Liechtenstein) AG / 7acht. For travellers, the key practical difference is which network your eSIM or roaming profile actually uses, especially near the Swiss border.
Telecom Liechtenstein AG (FL1)
The operator provides a public coverage page. It is useful for checking FL1’s own mobile footprint, while border-area roaming can still matter when the phone reaches foreign networks. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Check coverage ↗Swisscom (Schweiz) AG
Swisscom’s network page links to interactive coverage maps. For a trip to Liechtenstein, the practical question is whether your plan or roaming profile uses Swisscom on the ground. [1] [14]
Check coverage ↗Salt (Liechtenstein) AG / 7acht
7acht publishes mobile plan information and points to Salt’s public coverage map for network checking. For travellers, the important detail is the active network path rather than the brand name alone. [1] [5] [6]
Check coverage ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Liechtenstein
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Vaduz and the Rhine valley
- Malbun and the mountain road above Triesenberg
- Ruggeller Riet and the northern border area
- Balzers and Gutenberg Castle
Vaduz and the Rhine valley
This is the easiest area for staying connected: hotels, museums and administrative offices are concentrated in a compact valley setting. If you mainly stay in Vaduz, a moderate data plan is usually enough for maps, transport apps, messaging and ride bookings, but keep an eye on the network indicator when moving toward Switzerland. [1] [8] [9]
Malbun and the mountain road above Triesenberg
Install the eSIM before you leave the valley and save offline maps in advance. The mountain road and resort area are better handled with downloaded directions, booking details and a backup contact method ready before you head uphill. [9] [11] [7]
Ruggeller Riet and the northern border area
This is the place where border effects deserve attention. Before large downloads, hotspot use or long navigation sessions, check which network is active, because the phone may move onto a foreign network near the edge of the country. [1] [6] [9]
Balzers and Gutenberg Castle
This southern stop is usually straightforward for a short visit, but it is still sensible to watch the signal when moving between the village, the castle hill and the road links toward Switzerland. A data-only eSIM is often enough if you mainly need navigation and messaging. [9] [11]
Liechtenstein · eSIM
Why a local data eSIM helps
Liechtenstein is small, but connectivity is not identical everywhere. In Vaduz, mobile data is mainly about convenience: finding your hotel, checking museum hours, ordering a taxi and keeping transport apps ready. In Malbun and the mountain road above the valley, the same connection becomes more valuable because you are more likely to want offline maps, saved directions and a backup way to contact your accommodation before you head uphill.
The mobile market is clear at the regulatory level: the country has three licensed operators with their own networks — FL1, Swisscom and Salt / 7acht. For travellers, the practical question is which network your plan actually uses, how it behaves near the Swiss border and whether you need a data-only eSIM or a package that also suits calls and texts. Public transport apps are genuinely useful here because visitors often move between Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Austria in the same day.
Useful apps and travel tools
SBB Mobile ↗
Useful for route planning, live departures and ticket purchase across Liechtenstein, Switzerland and nearby cross-border trips. [7] [12]
FAIRTIQ ↗
A practical ticket app for travelers who want simple check-in/check-out travel on routes that include Liechtenstein and the surrounding region. [7] [13]
Google Maps ↗
Useful for navigation and timetable lookup when you want one app for maps, routes and stop information. [7] [10]
Before you buy
Border roaming can change unexpectedly
Liechtenstein is compact, but border effects matter. The regulator notes that foreign networks can be reached unintentionally in border areas, so travellers should not assume the phone will stay on the same network everywhere. That matters most if you stream, hotspot, or use navigation near the Rhine valley edge. [1]
Public transport works well with mobile data
LIEmobil says visitors can buy tickets directly through SBB Mobile or FAIRTIQ, and Google Maps is also useful for timetable checks. That makes a stable data connection helpful even on a short trip, especially if you are crossing into Switzerland or Austria the same day. [7] [8] [10] [12] [13]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Liechtenstein
Which mobile networks work in Liechtenstein?
The national regulator lists three licensed operators with their own mobile networks: Telecom Liechtenstein AG (FL1), Swisscom (Schweiz) AG and Salt (Liechtenstein) AG / 7acht. For a traveller, the important comparison is not only the brand name, but also which network path your eSIM or roaming profile uses and how it behaves near the border. [1] [2]
Is border roaming something to worry about?
Yes, especially if you stay in the Rhine valley, visit the north near Ruggeller Riet or drive between places close to Switzerland. The regulator says foreign networks can be reached unintentionally in border areas. If you want to avoid surprises, check your active network before large downloads, hotspot use or long navigation sessions. [1] [6] [9]
Which apps are most useful with mobile data there?
For most travellers, the most useful apps are SBB Mobile, FAIRTIQ and Google Maps. LIEmobil recommends them for timetable checks, ticket purchase and route planning across Liechtenstein and the wider cross-border transport area. That makes a stable data plan more useful than a large call bundle for many short trips. [7] [8] [10] [12] [13]
Do I need a big data package for Vaduz?
Usually not. Vaduz is compact, so many visitors mainly use data for maps, messages, restaurant bookings and taxis. A moderate plan is often enough unless you expect to share hotspot data, stream heavily or spend a lot of time crossing between Liechtenstein and nearby Swiss towns. [8] [9]
What should I do before going to Malbun?
Install and test the eSIM before you head uphill, then save offline maps and any booking details. Mountain travel is less forgiving than city use because signal can change faster as you move away from the valley floor. Having directions, accommodation info and a backup contact method ready is the practical approach. [9] [11]
Can I rely on one app for buses and tickets?
Often yes. LIEmobil says travellers can buy tickets through SBB Mobile or FAIRTIQ, and Google Maps also helps with timetables. If you want to keep travel simple, keep one live data connection for maps and another app for tickets instead of switching between several services. [7] [8] [10] [12] [13]
