How far will your data go?
Choose an allowance to see what it could cover. Quality, compression and background activity change actual usage.
With 3 GB, approximately…
Send photos
≈ 600 photosExample: 5 MB per photo
Upload your own videos
≈ 47 clipsExample: a 1-minute Full HD clip ≈ 63 MB
Watch video
≈ 1 hrHD example: 3 GB per hour
At standard quality: ≈ 4 hr 17 min
Make video calls
≈ 2 hr 46 min1:1 at 720p: ≈ 1.08 GB per hour
Each result uses the whole allowance for that one activity. The results do not add up: maps, messages and other apps share the same data.
Taking photos or recording video on your phone does not itself use mobile data. Sending, watching or backing them up over the mobile network does.

Where these estimates come from
Planning examples, not guaranteed totals. We use 1 GB = 1,000 MB, round down complete files and minutes, and exclude overhead, retries and background traffic.
- 5 MB is Verizon’s high-resolution photo example. Your files can be smaller after compression or much larger as originals or RAW. Check the actual file size on your phone. Verizon ↗
- 63 MB models a 1-minute H.264 Full HD export at 24–30 fps using YouTube’s recommended video and stereo audio bitrates. It is not a universal camera-file size or the cost of watching a clip. YouTube ↗
- Viewing examples use Netflix’s published rates: up to 0.7 GB/hr at Medium and up to 3 GB/hr in HD. Other apps and quality settings can differ; these are not YouTube playback rates. Netflix ↗
- The call example uses Zoom’s 1:1 720p bandwidth: 1.2 Mbps up and 1.2 Mbps down, together about 1.08 GB/hr. Group calls and higher resolutions can use more. Zoom ↗

On iOS 26, a Turn On Travel eSIM notification may appear after arrival. Choose the travel line for data and check whether you also want to keep your home line active. If no notification appears, use the manual steps below.
Check when your package starts: at payment, installation or first connection. If it starts on installation, install nearer your trip. Installing later does not postpone a package that started at payment.
These screens show settings on the models named below. Your operator and eSIM labels will differ. Screens retain the source language; each caption translates and identifies the control to use. Tap any image for a closer look.

Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → new eSIM → Edit name
Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → new eSIM → Name
Huawei: SIM management → SIM 2 → your eSIM → Card name. You can keep the existing label if no rename option is shown.
Honor: SIM management → SIM 2 → eSIM name. Rename it if your MagicOS version offers this option.
Xiaomi / Redmi: Manage eSIM → your plan → Change nickname, if available.
Motorola: Open the new eSIM in SIM settings and use the edit-name option if available.
OPPO: Open the installed profile in eSIM settings and change its label if your ColorOS version allows it.
OnePlus: Open the installed eSIM and edit its name if the option is available.
Line name: Letisim Romania

No second screen for your QR code?
If the scanner has a gallery button, save the QR from your order and choose that image. If your order includes manual installation details, choose Enter details manually and copy the fields exactly. The available methods depend on your phone and eSIM. If neither is available, contact support; do not scan a sample code from this guide or delete an installed eSIM.

04 / Operators
Mobile operators in Romania
Compare network coverage separately from speed. A national result does not predict reception inside your hotel or along a mountain road.
Compare Orange, Vodafone and Digi. Telekom Romania Mobile was acquired in 2025: Vodafone took the company and post-paid customers, while Digi took the prepaid business. Older Telekom coverage information can still help interpret a package, but check current network details before buying.
Orange
Official interactive coverage map for mobile and fixed services. It helps travelers check estimated outdoor coverage and service technologies before moving between cities or resort areas. [3]
Check coverage ↗Vodafone
Official network-coverage page for Romania. Good for checking service availability in major cities and along trip legs where Vodafone is present. [6]
Check coverage ↗Digi
Official service coverage map with 2G, 4G and 5G layers and address search. Useful for checking whether the network is available at a hotel, station, or along a road segment. [4]
Check coverage ↗Telekom Romania Mobile (Vodafone)
Now part of Vodafone following the 2025 acquisition. Check current Vodafone information and the network named in your package; prepaid customers moved to Digi. [5] [1] [17]
Check coverage ↗The network in your chosen package is what matters. This country comparison does not mean every plan includes every operator. 5G depends on the package, phone and local coverage.
05 / Coverage
Coverage across Romania
Check the addresses and roads you will actually use. Save maps and booking details before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Bucharest
- Brașov, Sinaia and Predeal
- Danube Delta
- Transylvanian castle and resort trips
Bucharest
For the capital, check your operator before arrival if you will depend on the metro, airport transfer, or heavy central-district use. A travel app with real-time routes is especially handy here because urban movement changes quickly across the day. [14] [10] [11]
Brașov, Sinaia and Predeal
This mountain corridor mixes city streets, rail travel and resort stops, so plan for changing signal conditions between towns and on scenic approaches. Download maps and tickets before leaving the city, then use network checks for each stop if you are switching trains or continuing into the hills. [15] [8] [9]
Danube Delta
Boat itineraries and wetland accommodation can mean less predictable data than in cities, so save offline maps, bookings and driver or boat contact details in advance. For day trips, a practical plan is to treat mobile data as a convenience for messages and navigation rather than the only way to stay organized. [13] [8]
Transylvanian castle and resort trips
For castle loops, ski towns and countryside detours, choose a plan with enough data for maps, ride-hailing and translation before you leave the main city. Check coverage along the exact route rather than relying on one city result, especially when your day includes several stops. [8] [3] [4] [6]
Romania · eSIM
What to know before you choose
Romania has several national mobile networks with public coverage maps, so the useful comparison is not just the country name but the exact city, resort or route you will use. A plan that feels fine in Bucharest can behave differently on a mountain drive, a rail transfer, or a boat-based trip.
For travellers, the best prep is simple: install your eSIM before departure, save offline maps, and check the operator’s coverage page for your hotel, station or road segment. In Bucharest, live transport apps are especially helpful; in Brașov and nearby resorts, route-by-route checking matters more; in the Danube Delta, offline access is a smart backup.
Useful apps and travel tools
CFR Călători bilete online ↗
Official rail app for checking train departures and buying tickets in Romania. It is useful on intercity trips where mobile data helps you confirm schedules and manage tickets from the phone. [9]
Info TB ↗
STB’s real-time route planner for Bucharest surface transport and metro connections. It helps when moving around the capital, especially if you need live vehicle positions and route changes. [10]
Bilet TB ↗
STB’s ticket app for Bucharest-Ilfov surface transport and some integrated rail journeys. It is practical for buying local tickets without carrying a transport card. [11]
Before you buy
Check coverage by city and route, not just by country
Romania has multiple national mobile networks with their own public coverage tools, and the practical choice can differ between a capital, a mountain resort, and a wetland or ferry route. That means the safest approach is to compare the operator map with your exact hotel, station, or transfer route before you leave Wi‑Fi. [1] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Rail and urban apps can save time on arrival
CFR Călători and STB’s apps are useful when you want live train, bus and route information on the move, especially in Bucharest and on intercity connections. Installing them before departure reduces the need to search while you are already in transit. [9] [10] [11]
06 / FAQ
Questions about eSIM in Romania
Which mobile networks should I compare for Romania?
Compare the public coverage tools from Orange, Vodafone, Digi and Telekom Romania Mobile. They each publish their own maps, which is useful because the strongest practical choice can differ between central Bucharest, a rail corridor, and a mountain or wetland trip. ANCOM also continues to monitor mobile coverage at the national level, so the market is actively regulated. The safest traveler approach is to check the exact places you will visit, not only the country as a whole. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Is one network always the best choice for the whole country?
No. The right choice depends on where you spend time. City centers, resort roads, train journeys and delta boat routes can each produce a different result on the same trip. Opensignal’s Romania market insight shows that operators are compared on real-world user experience, but that does not turn a benchmark into a guarantee for your exact route. Use the operator maps and match them to your itinerary. [7] [3] [4] [5] [6]
What should I do before arriving in Bucharest?
Install your eSIM while you still have home Wi‑Fi, then save the apps and tickets you will need for the first day. In Bucharest, STB’s Info TB helps with live routes and Bilet TB handles local tickets, while CFR Călători is useful if you are continuing by train. That way you can step off the plane and go straight to maps, taxis and transit without hunting for a store or public Wi‑Fi. [9] [10] [11] [14]
Do I need offline maps for Brașov, Sinaia or the Danube Delta?
They are a good backup. Brașov, Sinaia and Predeal often involve rail travel, mountain roads and changing stopovers, so offline maps and downloaded bookings reduce stress if the signal fluctuates. In the Danube Delta, offline access is even more practical because boat schedules, accommodation check-ins and transfers are easier when the basics are already saved on the phone. [8] [13] [15]
Can I rely on mobile data for trains and local transport?
Yes for convenience, but it is better to prepare before you move. CFR Călători and the STB apps are built for train and city-transport use, and both are most helpful when you already have data ready and the apps installed. That means you can check departures, live routes and tickets on the move instead of trying to set everything up during a connection. [9] [10] [11]
